Hi, like many on this board, I am looking for advice on my chances for admission to a Phd in Finance. I am unsure of whether I should go for a masters (I have already been admitted to a Msc at LSE) in economics or finance and then apply, or apply directly to a Phd program. My ultimate goal is an academic career.
My background:
Age: 24
Undergraduate: McGill University 3.5 GPA in Economics
GRE: Math 770 Verbal 550
Math courses: Calculus 1&2, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Econometrics
Econ courses: Microeconomic theory, Macroeconomic theory, Finance, many economics electives but none too quantitative...
No academic research experience. I graduated 2 years ago, and since then have been in the research department for an algo hedge fund.
do I have any chance at a Phd? I realize my math background is quite limited in comparison to many on this board...just unsure if it is worth it to go for a masters and strengthen my background or not.
I'd appreciate any and all advice!
