  1. Howdy y'all. I two idiosyncratic and unrelated questions: I graduated from undergrad last year, in a total of 6 semesters, after being suspended for 2 semesters for drug possession. Now, I don't want to draw too much attention to this, though I'm certainly not going to lie on the applications that ask if I've ever been subject to an academic sanction. My question is how to approach those applications which don't explicitly ask about academic sanctions. The only indication they'd have of anything abnormal is that on my transcript it says "Honor Code Violation--Suspension." Since schools might well assume the worst (that is, that I was suspended for cheating), I'm planning on mentioning it in the "additional information" section at the end. Do adcoms actually read those? Anyone have any strategy advice? Second, I applied to a few programs last year, to test out the waters; it didn't go so well. My application has since been much improved (swapped out 2 LOR's, took important classes last semester), so I think that these programs are now more realistic. My question is: I've already sent them my GRE scores, which don't expire for another year. Do I have to re-send them? Do schools keep them on file? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for your time.
  2. After having spent a bit of time on this forum, I come to y'all with a fairly unusual case. In the spring of my junior year, I was arrested for drug possession (no dealing or anything like that), and received a yearlong suspension by my school's honor court. My legal issues will soon be resolved (probation, community service), but it appears that my transcript will list this suspension when I apply to grad school. My plan is to graduate on time, though in only 6 semesters. I had a LOT of AP credits, and I'll still have time to complete a double major in math/econ. I've spent my year off as a RA for a prof I'm close with (I'm a co-author on the second edition of a fairly popular UG political economy textbook) and as a RA for a public policy think tank. So here's my question: How will this affect my chances? I've taken fewer math/econ classes than I otherwise would have, and have more research experience; call that part a wash. Will top-15 PhD programs care about a suspension for drugs? I should note that I've been completely clean for 10 months now (been tested regularly while on probation). Any thoughts?
