  1. I have got admit in USC for MS in Software Engineering for Spring 2006. I have few questions about life at USC for MS Students. Please respond . Is MS at USC difficult as compared to our B.Tech in India. Although Courses are less like 3 courses per semester whereas in India at our B.tech degree time we had 6 courses per semester.are there internal assessments.how do they take exams. How many hours on an average we have to attend classes and labs and how many days like we used to 9am to 4pm in India during our B.tech. Did I will have time to do on campus jobs or not because of tough study at USC. I asked the same question at Yahoo forums and got this reply. Please Comment how far the guy is true. Also If study is so tough then how Ordinary people (not toppers) able to complete their MS at USC Is MS at USC difficult as compared to our B.Tech in India? Ans: Yes, there is no doubt abt that. Although Courses are less like 3 courses per semester whereas in India at our B.tech degree time we had 6 courses per semester.are there internal assessments.how do they take exams? Ans: well MS in US is not same. in some unives ur friends may enjoy and without studying they might get A grade but in USC its different. if u r in CS and if u'll take CS 551 course (Computer Communication) than that 1 course itself is enough to keep u busy for entire semester. here courses are difficult and assignments are tough also u cant copy assignments here. every course has projects and other readings. apart from study u have to do part time jobs and other house related stuffs. also almost all courses has midterm exams and finals. well u'll say no big deal but it is not easy to score in exams here in USC since u'll find all scholars here in ur class. some are PHD students while some are having 8-10 yrs of industry experiance while others are from good institutions like IITs and all. so u have to compete with them to get good grades. so do not go by no of courses. i m not telling this to threaten u but u shud better prepared for the worst. How many hours on an average we have to attend classes and labs and how many days like we used to 9am to 4pm in India during our B.tech. Did I will have time to do on campus jobs or not because of tough study at USC. Ans: well class timings are less. usually 3 hrs per class in week. also usc has facility of online lectures so that even if u miss ur lecture, u can view that lecture online. also u have to do on campus job unless u have lots of money :) its bit easy in starting of sem but after month or so ur life will be miserable and in the end of sem if u r coming home at around 2AM then u'll be the 1st one to enter ur house. but after some time u all will learn time management.

  7. Some people are saying that I should dispose my FD's so as to have amount in my current Bank Account. As FD's are not recognised by Visa Officer's as Immediate Available Funds especially for first year of study. They are saying that I need to have atleast 10 Lakhs in current account. Please tell me do I need to do that. I only have 2 lakhs in current Balance at this time. Also I will show annual income of 6 Lakh but without any income tax return form (from salary & Agriculture income). Is there any problem for this.

  12. I donot hink they will do this for me Moreover Can I convince that although the amount mentioned on I-20 is $37330 and $37330 * 2 = $75000 but the amount on I-20 in Calculated by considering 18 Credits per year and it is a 27 Credits program. So the Tution fees for the Second year (remaining 9 Credits) will be half of the first year. So it turns out atmost $65000 equivalent to 29 Lakhs. Does they look at Our immovable assets or not at all Moreover taking a letter from Dean of the MS program at USC that this programe takes normally 1.5 years to complete. Also I have lost Orginal TOEFL Score sent by ETS and now have a photocopy of that. Does it matter at the VISA Interview.

  15. I am in a very confusing situation. I am from India. I have got Admission in USC, SMU & NJIT for MS in CS for spring 2006. I want to go to USC. But the Problem is that on I-20 of USC they have mentioned 24 months as the duration of the MS in CS program and amount of $37330 on I-20 for academic term of 9 months. So I will have to show $37330 * 2 = $75000 as readily available funds for entire course of study. But actually it takes around $60000 to complete the program as it takes maximum of 18 months to complete the program as it is a 27 credit program So 9 * 3 =27 credits. I have 20 Lakhs ($44450) as liquid cash and immovable assets of 65 lakhs with an annual income of 5 lakhs. Please tell me should I take a bank loan of 10 Lakhs and got to USC or donot take a loan and go to SMU which is cheaper than USC .Please advice me by which way my chances of getting Student VISA is better by taking a loan of 10 Lakh and going to USC or not taking a loan and going to SMU bearing in mind that USC has much higher reputation than SMU.

  18. Somepeople are saying NJIT is better others SMU is better In USNEWS amercia doctors degree ranking SMU is at 71 ang NJIt is at 125. So how is NJIT better and in America best coleges SMU is in 2nd tier while NJIT in 3rd tier Also in NJIT there are about 350 MS students in Computer science department so how so many studnts gets placements whereas SMU has only 50 MS students .Also SMU is 5 miles from Downtown Dallas so how is NJIT better
  19. Please respond any comments welcomed . Please hurry up
