I know the research experience is very valuable for not only admissions, but for getting good LOR. I have been working to find such an opportunity with my econ faculty, however I have been thus far unsuccessful. My actually major is math and I am better connected in that department than econ at this point (working on this atm). I was wondering, if I am unable to find something in econ, would a project in stats or math be a valuable addition to my application for a PhD program in econ? Similarly, are LOR from math profs considerably worst than LOR from econ profs? If I were to pursue a math or stats project which topics would be desirable?
