  1. That is what I am considering. The reason is there is actually no one do IO or environment in my dept in next year. The strength of our dept is macro and ag, which is not my type...
  2. Why nobody give any suggestion? Please.....Is it the school choice too high?
  3. Type of Undergrad: Top 10 university in China Undergrad GPA: 3.45 Type of Grad: US Top20 school program Master and now US Top 40-50 PhD 1st year done and pass qualify in 1st try Grad GPA: Master 3.7 PhD 3.9+ GRE: V500 Q 800 AW 3.5 Math Courses: Undergrads(in Asia): Maths 1(B+) , II(B) Linear Algebra (B), Probability (B+) Stochastic Process (A-) Real Analysis (A), Complex Analysis (A+), Topology (A) Time Series (A) Grads(in US): Real Analysis A Econ Courses: in top 20 school: PhD level : Micro I and II A-,A Macro I B+, Metrics I B In top 40-50 school 1st year PhD: Micro I and II A, A- Macro I and II A,A Metrics I and II A,A Letters of Recommendation: Probably one professor from Master program who know me well (top 7% in idea)… Other professor from PhD program: One junior professor (UCSD), one or two top 5% professor in Ideas ranking, one or two senior professor in Metrics. Probably two LOR can be really good, one LOR not sure. Research Experience: 6 month RA in B-School, but just some data management…Not really high skilled work Teaching Experience: Introductory microecnonomic course Research Interests: IO, Microecnometrics, Environment SOP: Have not decided, but pretty sure will explain why I want to do IO and what my specific research plan in IO….. Concern: 1.Undergrads 1st two year undergrads grades was bad and had no plan to apply PhD at that time. 2.The reason to apply is not persuasive enough Reason to apply: Have not decided whether to leave yet, but all professors in my fields are leaving to other schools and I have not seen the future there are professors in my fields are coming…. Any suggestion will be really helpful.......
  4. UCSD> Austin. Austin and UCSD both have good game theory, but I guess UCSD is better. Austin seems to have no experimental or behavior professor in there. UCSD's metric, especially time series is much better....
  5. Is Hamermesh close to retire? I heard Austin barely have macro 2nd year classes and the 1st year PhD class is taught by senior lecturer? Is it true?
  6. I heard UT has hired 6 new professors, and plan to add two more at the end of the semester, since they lost lots of professors. If you want to do macro, I think OSU is much better than Austin, but if you want to do labor or micro econometrics, both schools are great.
  7. Please let me know if you got news.
  8. Does it mean all the offers and waiting list have been sent?
  9. So you cannot ask the committee or graduate coordinator directly in your department?
  10. Is the end of the month campus visit for ASU?
  11. anybody heard what situation is happening of this school? People do not receive any information right now means rejection? Some classmates and myself have not heard any news from them right now. It is already end of the March...
  12. I will visit Austin next Wednesday, have contacted the graduate coordinator and book the ticket...
  13. I am now on the waiting list for funding, they said there is definitely money if I can get off the list. But the weird thing is one of my classmates who is native, get admission without funding. I do not know how long it is and how big chance I can get in. I heard there is no official visit for Austin. Does anybody know what condition of Austin this year? Or study there?
  14. International with master degree in US. My UID has some error, so they told me that just check the website which uploading the supplemental files. And that one shows" complete"
  15. Anybody has received the letter as below? I thought it was a rejection but some friends said their rejection letters are not like this one. And my status in Maryland system is still "completed“, neither admitted nor rejection. So can anyone tell me this is a rejection or waiting-list? "We are sorry to inform you that, in spite of your excellent credentials, we cannot offer you admission at this point. We have not, however, made all final decisions. In fact, based on the strength of your application, we believe that there is some probability that we may be able to extend an offer of admission sometime between now and April 15. There is also some probability that we may be able to offer financial aid. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us if you need to select a graduate program before you receive an update from us."
  16. Did they say when we can know the final result for funding?
  17. They said: We are pleased to inform you that you are on the wait list for admission with financial aid to our doctoral program. Because we have very limited funds available for financial support, we are unable to offer you aid at this time. (It is department policy to offer admission only to those students to whom we can provide aid.) Does it look weird?
  18. I am now on the waiting-list of UT-Austin and they said I was on the waiting-list for admission with funding. They also said they do not offer admission without funding. I wonder how long the waiting-list usually is and how is the chance to get in from waiting-list?
