  1. I hate Issue Essays. They're my achilles heel. I can't figure them out, I get all muddled up halfway through them. Anyway I was hoping I could work with someone else who suffers from the same afflication. If you're in the same boat email me. We can work on the same essay and then give each other feedback. It should help. ciao, aRk.
  2. Brilliant - it all makes sense now. Have to catch up on those pesky properties of similar triangles. thanks, ArK
  3. i don't understand the graph that zorillo posted. I mean as you get to a higher percentile wont the values get higher? In this graph after the 50th percentile the values get lower. Does anybody know of any good online resources that explain normal distributions. This question is driving me nuts - I just dont get it confused, arKham
  4. Yup makes sense, thanks a lot for that explanation. You meant the distance between (0,a) and the two points is the same, right? What about the second question? thanks, ArK
  5. Sorry, I didn't see srini's post. Sweta is right, the answers are B & C. arK
  6. Yup that's right, could you tell me how you got those anwers, please. thanks, arK
  7. Hi guys, Can someone please, help me out with these questions - they're driving me crazy. thanks, ArKham
  8. In how many ways can five people sit around a circular table if one person can not have the same neighbors in any two arrangements? I have absolutely no idea how to figure this out. thanks, arK
  9. Yeah there's no way the third one is 9/13. It has to be 4/13. This question is basically asking for (1 - the answer to the second question). Do the probability questions on the GRE get any harder than this?
  10. Hi, all. I was just wondering, the last few practise tests I've taken I've been a lot more organized on my scrap paper. Rather than just writing all over the place. My scores seem to be getting better. Anybody else notice this or is it just the practise? Any thoughts, comments? -arK
  11. I cheated and took an hour. I'm just glad I actually managed to finish one without getting all jumbled up. Hope the next one will be easier "Question authority. Only by questioning accepted wisdom can we advance our understanding of the world" Some people feel that one should always question authority. While others feel, ""If aint broke don't fix it". However, a close examination of the fact makes it evident that one must always question authority. A society that doesn't question accepted wisdom is bound to decline. If man had failed to question authority, our civilization would never have advanced to the level that it is today. If pre-historic man had not questioned the hunter-gatherer way of life, we would not have discovered farming. Innovation and inventions are the by products of an individual questioning accepted wisdom. Questioning accepted wisdom has lead to new discoveries and thereby a better understanding of the world around us. Faulty reasoning could propogate through time, if individuals did not question accepted wisdom. There are numerous examples of scientists disproving the accepted theories of their predecessors. The most notable being Galileo's theory of a heliocentric solar system. This theory disproved the widely accepted geo-centric model of our solar system. The geo-centric model is thought to have hampered our technological progress by hundreds of years. This model would have continued to stem our technological advancement, had it not been challenged and disproved by Galileo. An individual has to question authority in order to gain a better understanding of the world around him or her. A student from an orthodox background who simply accepts the notion that promiscous sex is wrong has gained less knowledge than a student who has questioned the concept. Questioning promiscous sex, allows authority, in the form of a Health Educator to illustrate to the student why promiscous sex is wrong. The Health educator can then provide information about STD's, contraception, teen pregnancies, etc. The student who has questioned the view point now has a better understanding of the world around him/her. In addition, the Health educator has a better understanding of students' concerns and preceptions about sex. Proponents of the "If it aint broke don't fix it" way of thinking, believe that people will eventually question authority just for the sake of questioning authority. They believe that individuals will try to reform systems that do not require reform. In such systems the implementation of new reforms will only retard the understanding of future generations. Nevertheless, these critics fail to take into account the fact that human beings are rational beings. We are fully capable of processing the sum total of information and arriving upon a rational decision. If reforms are not beneficial, as rational beings we will prevent them from being implemented. Individuals must question authority. Questioning authority leads to innovations, corrections of flaws and an increase in knowledge. A complacent society would have hampered our advancement and our technological progress. Without the "Whys", we might still have been hunters and gatherers.
  12. Hi, A couple of questions. I'd like to get a masters in finance in america. The thing is I don't have a background in finance. I graduated with a BSc. in Information Systems (from the US), interned for a year during college, worked full-time for a year and a half, and then volunteered for six months. A lot of the programs I've looked at say that a financial background isn't necessary? How valid is this statement? Secondly, since I finished volunteering last November, I've been travelling around for the last six months and just recently began the ACC Diploma in Financial management. How bad will it look to an admissions committee that I haven't being doing anything "constructive" for the last six months? Thanks, Ark
  13. Hi all, hoping to take my GRE on August 15th. I score pretty well on the Math sections but consistently miss 2-3 Data Interpretation questions. My estimations always seem to be wrong. Does anyone have any tips or any good links that might help? Thanks, matt
