A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of his new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position. I strongly oppose the idea of building a large factory near our community. Although factories are important for the progress of the nation, but if built near a community, I believe that the factory will pose many problems for the residents of the community. A factory is the cause for all types of pollution. The poisonous gases emitted by factory cause respiratory diseases like bronchitis, asthma, etc and result in severe health risks. Factories dump wastes into rivers and lakes making water unfit for drinking and affecting the health of people. The noise pollution caused by factories disturbs the peace of the community. It brings problems to students who need quiet environment for studying and also to infants and old people who want some tranquility. Apart from these problems, the establishment of factory will result in population increase. This will lead to price inflation of basic commodities and cost of living will become higher. Also, there will be burden on public transportation which will result in poor services. On the other hand, a large factory could also be beneficial for the community. It will generate a lot of employment opportunities. The talented young intellectuals without jobs will be provided with jobs. Also, there will be no shortage of power and water supply. Taking all these factors into consideration, there are more disadvantages of setting up a factory than advantages. Therefore, I disagree with the plan of building a large factory near our community.

It has been said, “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.” Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why? I agree with the statement “Not everything that is learned is contained in books”. In my opinion, knowledge gained from experience is more important than knowledge gained from books. As one said “Experience is the teacher of the man”, it is true that a person can learn many valuable lessons through his/her own practical experiences. Moreover, the knowledge gained through experience is likely to be retained in our mind for a longer period of time. For example, when we perform experiments in laboratories in school, it becomes easier for us to understand the concepts and we don’t have to learn the facts by rote. Needless to say, books are also very important. A person in his lifetime cannot experience everything, but by reading books on various subjects, he can expand his knowledge. Sometimes obtaining knowledge through experience is time consuming as well as tedious, for instance, if a person wants to know about African deserts, it is not realistic for him to go there. However, learning through experience is more beneficial than learning from books. Experience provides you with first hand information and gives self satisfaction. Moreover, many skills can be learned through practical experience only. For example, a person who wants to learn computer programming can go through various books that teach people how to write programs, but all this knowledge is useful when one writes the code on the computer and gets the desired output. To conclude, although we can gain knowledge through books as well as experience but learning through experience is more important because it boosts our confidence and provides a better understanding of the subject.

Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way people live ? In my opinion, the fact that food has become easier to prepare has certainly improved the way people live. Modern appliances and availability of precooked and frozen food in the market have made cooking much easier and help us in saving our time and effort. Earlier, preparing food was time consuming as well as tedious job, but nowadays due to appliances like Microwave oven, grinders, etc., it has become very easy to cook food without spending a lot of time. This helps a great deal for those who have a hectic schedule and can’t waste their precious time in cooking. This also helps them to avoid spending huge amount of money in restaurants. Grocery stores and markets around the world now have pre-cooked convenience foods available for purchase. The manufacturers of these products take utmost care to retain their nutritional value. These days, people have become health conscious and they are careful about protein and calorie contents of the food. They find these products satisfy their requirements. Lastly, this has improved the way people live by saving time and energy which can be utilized for other activities, especially for women. In the past, they used to spend most of the time at home preparing food but now they can go to work. They can make their career and put their knowledge to better usage. To sum up, technology has made food preparation much easier than before which has improved the way people live. It has helped in saving time, effort and money which can be used more productively.

They help in guiding us at every stage of life and in modulating our personality. In the initial years of our life, parents teach basic things like walking, speaking and interacting with others and set the foundation to our life. They make us understand the differences between right and wrong. Both father and mother try to inculcate good habits in speech and manner. Also, the amount of time parents spend with their children make them witness every step in both physical and mental development. This also helps them to know their strengths and weaknesses and likes and dislikes. They even point out a direction to their future goals. For example, my father always knew from the beginning that I was interested in computer programming and that is why he is sending me to USA for BS in Computer Science. Although professional teachers are more knowledgeable than our parents, but parents teach from their true experiences which is very important for us to know apart from the facts taught at these institutions. They also give us lessons about being independent and facing problems with confidence. To sum up, I would like to say parents are the best teachers as they are most involved in the development of the child and make him/her ready to face the world.

People chiefly attend college or university for better career prospects, gaining knowledge and developing independence. In this essay, I will discuss and give examples of each. The most prominent reason that people attend college or university is for their career development. Nowadays it has become very difficult to get a good job without a college level education. College or university provides an ideal environment where they are guided and trained for the career they have chosen. Even students who want to pursue higher studies like Ph. D., they should have college level education. Another reason for attending college/university is for gaining knowledge. There are many professors who have immense knowledge and they provide lucid explanations of difficult concepts. With their help, students can follow systematic approach towards learning. Students also have access to libraries, laboratories and other valuable facilities. Interaction with people is also a reason for attending college/university. People from different backgrounds get opportunities to interact and learn about different cultures and traditions. They also learn how to cooperate with each other which is very important for their future life. Lastly, students can learn how to become independent. Before coming to college, mainly teachers and parents take care of them. They now have to arrange their timetable and studies by themselves. They have to get up on their own and make sure that their clothes are washed and ironed. This will prepare them well for the challenges they will face ahead in the future. To sum up, college or university is the place where dreams are fulfilled. It teaches people how to deal with life, how to interact with people and how to become independent. It helps people to reach their goals and lead a successful life.
