  1. I graduated in May 2011 with a double major in political science and math. I had never really thought about economics serious, but I took micro and macro my senior year and really enjoyed them. Not knowing what I wanted to do after school, I moved to China where I have been a college admissions consultant the past year. In that time, I did a lot of research and found that I would really enjoy going to graduate school in econ (through a lot of reading and talking to some friends who decided to take that path). However, I was not sure that I wanted to apply until after the deadline for 2012 admissions. So now I am looking to apply for Fall 2013. Right now I am unsure whether I will stay in China this year or not. I am looking for some econ research related jobs to apply to for the coming year. Anyway, I was curious about where I stand and what range of graduate schools I could reasonably apply to. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top 3 liberal arts college (Swarthmore) Undergrad GPA: 3.88 (Phi Beta Kappa) Type of Grad: - Grad GPA: - GRE: 800M, 710V, 5.5 Writing Math Courses: Linear Algebra (B), Multivar. Calc (A-), Real Analysis (B+), Diff Eq (A), Mathematical Statistics (A), Probability/Stochastic Processes (A) - my mathematical maturity improved quite a bit over my four years at college Econ Courses: Intro Econ (A-), Intermediate Micro (A), Intermediate Macro (A), Operations Research (A) Other Courses: International Political Economy, lots of other poli. sci. courses Letters of Recommendation: I don't have anything great. I never did any research, and my econ coursework was quite minimal. My professors like me and will certainly write good recs for me, but they will likely be outside of econ and not very famous because I went to a LAC Research Experience: None :( Teaching Experience: None Research Interests: International Econ (still doing research on more specifics) SOP: Should be decent. I guess my early math grades were somewhat weak, and my lack of research experience or any amazing LORs could hurt me quite a bit from what I understand. That being said, what types of schools do I have a shot at? Any guidance would be much appreciated!
