  1. If I recall correctly from last year, I explicitly got a "pending" decision.
  2. It seems that NW results are out, so I'm giving this post a bump up. Good luck guys!
  3. Guys, to those of you who applied to Northwestern, here's what you need to know about their admission decisions. Unlike other schools, they offer four kinds of admission results: accepted with full funding; accepted but on waitlist for first year funding; waitlist for both admission and first year funding(they call this status: pending); and rejected. So don't get bummed out if everyone else has heard from NW but your status still shows pending---at least you are not rejected. Usually the result of pending won't come out until the very end(early April), so be patient! I know that waiting is a long and excruciating process, but don't give up hope! In the end, it's all worth it! Good luck everyone!
  4. Catrina, I'm probably not in the position to say this since you have much more life experience than I do, but I think whichever school you choose, you are fine as long as you can make sure that you won't wake up one morning some years from now and regret your decision today.
  5. Well, I am grateful for what I have, and I am excited to be starting a new chapter of my life :)
  6. Congratulations! I will not forget how you were always predicting "tomorrow is going to be a big day" and it never was :D It was a great pleasure to have you in our cycle this year. Best of luck at Stanford!
  7. coffeehouse, what's your final decision?
  8. Thanks for the replies guys! They are really helpful! I didn't start this thread seeking for advice. I was indeed choosing between my undergrad institution and another school, but it was not a tough choice (probably because I already made my decision...) I didn't find a thread on this forum discussing the pros and cons of attending undergrad institution for a PhD, and I just want to see what people have to say about this issue. Hopefully this thread will be helpful to future applicants. :D
  9. Congrats coffeehouse! Hope to see you at NYU this fall! :P
  10. Is this common? Being admitted after being initially rejected? I didn't think this could happen, but apparently a number of us have reported this happening...
  11. April 15 is approaching. Good luck to everybody who is still on the wait list!
  12. Assume it's actually a decent program. It seems like in general this is not encouraged. However, is it nice to do a PhD at a place where the professors are already familiar with you? Does that make research go a lot smoother and faster? Plus, people can probably waive some first year courses as they probably have taken them in undergrad, which will get them to do research quicker.
  13. Congratulations Catrina! I'm so happy for you!! All of your effort finally paid off! Best of luck at Rice!!!
