  1. Rice is cool! But on a general level, as someone has pointed out, it seems that in some schools the grad school would require a MS degree but then their b-schools say it's no required, why would there be such a conflict of information? If the b-school does not want to require a MS degree, then why can't the grad school just say something like "depending on the specific department, you may or may not need a MS degree"? just curious
  2. I'm curious, why would the business school say they don't require a master's when apparently it is required by the graduate school? Wouldn't the requirement of the latter dictates so that all others (b-school, school of art&science, etc.) should just put "master's required" on their web pages?
  3. Good for you. So, are they going to ask for your grad school transcripts?
  4. on a second thought, they did not even ask for official transcripts so far. I've only provided scanned copies. Don't know if they are related
  5. haha well I apologize for spreading the panic. I've read my letter very carefully and it does not mention a word about contingencies, and the department page regarding admission has stated that no master's degree is required. These are the reasons I did not even think about the issue of not graduating. A friend of mine who's going to a PhD program in psych just called me about it and I panicked.
  6. thanks for replying. 1 is in process with no foreseeable outcome. 2 the required class is not offered and there's no replacement for it 3 I'm a bit embarrassed and also afraid to talk to people in new school about my current situation. What if they decide to revoke the admission right now? I was hoping to keep the secret to the point that they have to take me, if there is such a point...
  7. now I've just looked up the admission requirement and it states that no master's degree is required, so am I off the hook?
  8. that's too bad...my new school isn't in the same place as my current one so if I don't finish right now then I don't know when...
  9. Hi I'm currently in my last semester of MS program and have fortunately been accepted into a PhD program a month ago. Although I've planned to graduate in time, there is now a good chance that I won't. The earliest next possible time for me is this Fall by which time I should start my PhD already, so my questions are: 1. Is it okay to go to PhD without actually getting the MS degree, though I've done 99% of the work? I didn't register a 1 credit hour course in time, which stops me from graduating. It might be negotiated out but nothing is guaranteed. 2. The PhD program did not ask for updated transcript or for MS diploma (yet), is it typical that they ask for them later when you start the program or they no longer care for those once the admission decision's been made? 3. ultimately, can they revoke the admission if I performed badly in the last semester, and/or did not graduate from MS program at all? I mean they probably can, so I guess I'm really asking if there's a good chance they'll do that. On one hand I'm probably taking too many courses in one semester, on the other hand I sort of slacked off once I got admitted.
  10. source of funding? so funding wise which one is better?
  11. are there any differences between private and public schools in terms of being a doctoral student?
  12. they've given out interview invitation during Feb already?? Well if that's the case, nor should I be waiting then. Could you tell me where it was posted ?
  13. thanks for getting back so quickly and for the information! one other thing is, is it a good idea to disclose current offer when being interviewed by another school? I would be quite satisfied with the current offer so I don't really mind if disclosing it reduces my chance in this interviewer school, but is it good to let them know the name of the school that I got accepted? I can't think of why not to, but I maybe missing something...
  14. tried emailing but did not work, will certainly call if I have to but has anyone heard anything about their progress so far?
  15. apal479 would you mind to share your background a bit ?? I read your other post and it seems we have a few schools overlap
