(x^2)*y >0 x*(y^2) Take the 1st inequality if A*B >0 then either A and B BOTH are negative or BOTH are positive....(1) we also know that SQUARE of any no (-ve or +ve) is ALWAYS POSITIVE SO x^2 is positive. Hence by the funda (1) y should also be positive taking the 2nd inequality if A*B since B here is y^2 which HAS to be positive, A is negative ie x is negative So we have that y is positive and x negative Hence B is the answer Hope i was clear. See if you can manage the second one by urself now :) ...dmitts

I am not so sure about this .... see the way is see it, 5 couples = 10 ppl we pick group of 3 couples = 6 ppl so bascially we have to choose a grp of 6 out of 10 (since it doesn't matter whether the husband wife are together) so the answer shoud be 10C6 = 210 !!!! NOW we have 5 different answers :D anyone got a different one :) ?

:D yup it finally over and done with....[dance] gave the TOEFL day before yesterday..pretty satisfied with the score (though a little bit disappointed with not getting 300.) total :237 to 293 listening : 28 gram & writing: 13-30 Reading: 30 my score in power preps: 234 -287 in test1 and 240 to 297 in test2 (taking avg of two : 237 to 292--- u know what im getting at here :idea: ) The grammar was a cakewalk and so was the reading comprehension. The listening section was a little bit tough though..thougher than the powerprep in my case. Got one question wrong- the lecture was about a style of dancing and at the end they gave a ques showing pictures of 4 types of dances and asked which one was the one that was being talked about ! ! ! ! tricky one!!! watch out for these ones guys..this is the question which brought the score down. one last piece of advice. Don't try to speed through the Reading section. I know it is very easy for those who've prepared for GRE , but hey when u've got 70 mins try spending 30 mins on it altleast. (In my powerprep test one, i finshed the section in 9 mins but got 1 wrong.) In the actual test i gave the section about 35 mins...rested for 10 mins and then proceeded for writing section best of luck for all those planning to give the test in the near future:tup: ...dmitts

Hey Crtester, don't count on Bigbook for the quant section. The questions given r too easy there. I used to finish the BigBook Quant sections within 25-30 minutes. In the real exam,i didn't have sufficient time to finish all. I had to guess on the last one ! ! ! But if u believe ur Quant is very weak, u can start with bigbook and move on to sthg more difficult. ...Dmitts

nice going Jacob hey guys, I had the same rectangle quant ques as jacob did, except mine was a square to make the matters more simple. Like Jacob said, though it was easy, i wasn't expecting sthg like that in GRE. Brush up ur math people ! ! ! .......Dmitts

hey Nancy... chill out..i gave my GRE a few days before and read my lips - " the actual test is a easier than the power prep ones", atleast that is what i came to know through my experience. Like i've mentioned in another string, i got 1450 and 1470 in the 2 ppreps(i gave 2 days before the test date) and got a score of 1500 on the actual test. As far as RCs are concerned..i believe there is this mental barrier which u need to break through. most probably like everyone else, u didn't get good score in the RCs during the practice tests and so u've assumed that u r weak in them. U need to change that attitude. Next time u give a test, attack the RCs, taking them like any other questions, with full confidence. ( By the way i got 3 RCs one of 25 , one of 35 and one of 100 lines. And i found the 35 line one to be toughest. took me more time to read and do 2 questions in the 35 line passage than to read and do 4 questions of the 100 line passage. I'm telling this to make it clear, that length of an RC is not a thing to be intimidated by) hopefully i make sense .....Dmitts

thanks people... I'll be applying for Petroleum Engg...lets see what happens Coming to the statistics questions...first of all let me make this clear. I did get quite a few ques on stats, but they were quite easy, so chill out. here are a few types i got 1) there were 5 numbers given. upon adding a particular number to all the five, the sum became sthg (given). we had to calculate the median. 2) Two frequency tables were given. Had to compare between the combined mean and combined median. 3) Seven or nine (don't remember properly) no.s were give. Had to compare between the median and the standard deviation of those no.s 4) The mean of a normal distribution is 2. the Standard deviation is 1. What percent of no.s will lie between 1 and 4. COMPARE THIS WITH The mean of a normal distibution is 4. The SD is 3. What percentage of no.s will lie inbetween 1 and 10. rest were pretty much easy..like calculate mean or median.(the four mentioned above took some thinking) Ya another word of advice. REad the DATA INTERPRETATION QUESTIONS carefully. Although the ones i got had very small calculations, the WORDINGS were tricky. ( However the GRE guys underline those catch words :-) ) Mani and Nidhi, well i guess i was quite lucky, getting all the words from Barrons. However keep this in mind, while going through the Barrons list, read ALL the meanings given against a word. The antonyms and analogies i got had very easy words, but in quite a few questions, the choices seemed to be vague to make a choice. Don't worry too much about RCs..even if they r of 100 lines. It took me almost the same time to go through the RC of 35 lines and 100 lines, bcause the 35 lines on was difficult to comprehend while the 100 lines one , one could just cruise through. aahhh...finally its over and done with.:tup: [dance] got a score of 1500 and im more than satisfied with it.[dance] In the Power Prep tests i got 1470 in the first one and 1450 in the second one. So u can guess that i am pretty contended with the score. 700 in Verbal was a shock for me, a pleasant one that is.:D After i was done with the section, i was expecting sthg inbetween 600 to 650.Got three RCs, one of 100 line, one of 25 and the 3rd one of 35 lines. The RC's came after the first 13 questions, so i guess i was lucky with that. SCs were too damn easy ( in Power prep i used to get the max wrong in SCs). Got only a few analogies. Antonyms were also of medium level difficulty. Barrons is more than enough guys. I did prepare some other word lists like guru's and big book and the new words i found on the test magic forums. But, i guess barrons alone would have more than suffised for the questions i got in the exam. My first section was Qants. Easy but lengthy questions. could finish only 27 in the time, had to guess on the 28th. The third section was also Quants (thank god!!). this one was quite easy and i finished it with 10 mins to spare. One word of advice folks, don't overlook statistics. got 4 questions (each) from it in both the sections(one on normal distribution). Not even a single question on probability or permutation and combination in either of the two sections!!!. well.. best of luck to all the guys and gals appearing for their exam in the future. Remember..it not a big deal to get a good score on GRE. If i can get this much, u guys can surely do better.... ........Dmitts

is the answer B ? ? Nucleate means to form into a nucleus..ie to gather stuff together to form a single entity So the antonym should be to scatter ....Dmitts
