Precisely - I applied to Minnesota because I was open to dif field including macro, but I'm hesitating to go for the same reason after some research and thinking in the past few months. UMN is too narrowly focused and it'd be difficult to do dev there. Valid concern?

Thanks - thoughts on the other questions? How much value-add is the mphil for someone who has done all the pure math courses, but no background in economics?

Hey everyone, I'm facing the decision of attending either Oxford for Mphil or a fully funded PhD at Minnesota. I've applied and was rejected by other Top 10 US schools. Some background about myself: -mathematics at a Canadian university -very minimum economics coursework - could this be the reason I wasn't able to get in a higher ranked US PhD? -research experience in math -research interest: development economics So, here are my questions: 1. would the mphil add value to my current profile and boost my chances at Top 10 a year later? 2. anyone has information on the placement of mphil candidates? 3. which school should I choose money issues aside? Advice/thoughts are much appreciated!
