  1. Thanks Zengons! Do you mean the placement of the phd students or of the M2? Btw, M2 lasts 1 year, and then they decide if you are admitted to the second year, am I right? Any other opinions?
  2. Guys, I need to take a quick decision and I would like to get your advice. I got admitted to a few universities in Europe, among which UCL (MRes) and TSE(Master EcoMath, doctoral track). Although I was originally inclined toward UCL (no funding), I have just been informed that I will get a scholarship if I go to TSE (and for which I must decide immediately). I don't really know what to do, I would accept TSE offer since it is a great department and program, but here on the forum I read that some of you guys had horrible experiences in terms of level of the teaching (careless professors, crowded classes, problems if you don't speak French - I do not-) and that the rate of attrition is pretty high. So, I'm in two minds. Any yours opinions will be helpful and are very welcome. Thanks!
  3. Well, tough courses are fine, is how PhD courses should be and what I am exactly looking for. But I am afraid of facing extremely harsh exams session designed precisely to reduce the number of PhD students. I hope that they want just to test commitment and predisposition... Btw, 80% of funding makes me a bit more hopeful. @chisquared How was your experience in LSE, if I can ask? About attrition rates and funding statistics, I mean. @davidoshski Well, I am considering it, actually, because I am quite concerned about the funding issue. At the moment I feel like the Buridan's ***, really.
  4. Actually, I have an offer (funded) from UCIII Madrid, which is also very good in my opinion. The deadline is very early, however (before to know about the scholarship from UCL), and still UCL would be my first choice, also for my interest of research. By the way, I am automatically considered for ESRC support, right? Or should have I applied on my own to ESRC?
  5. Darcular, Thanks for the info! So let's see... the point is what to do with the other offers in the meanwhile @davidoshki I am EU. How does it matter in your opinion? Positevely or negatively?
  6. Hi Guys, I really need your advice. Here are the things:I received an offer for the MRes at UCL (first year of the PhD). Still no information about funding though; I would not bet a lot on it (should I?), but it is needless to say that it would be a great relief to hear good news. On this point, I would really appreciate if anybody of you would share any info about the attrition rates from the MRes to the PhD, so e.g. if most of the student are accepted to continue (and eventually get funding) or not, how tough is to pass the courses with decent grades and so on.
  7. Guys, thanks a lot for your answers. I am really considering UCIII in the handful of european universities I would like to enroll to. @juliep I already have a M.Science in Economics and yes, you guess it right: I do have interest in macro. However I would like to be as cross-border as I can, and I also expect that my interests may turn out to be a bit reshaped after another year (or a couple as in UC3M) of good lectures and seminars. Speaking of which, I had a look at the courses program and it seems pretty well structured and demanding, just like you said. Up to now, I don't have specific questions but still I am also wondering how is the relationships with the professors. Like whether you have a supervisor from the onset of the master or just in the second year, and if you have the chance to have an easy contact with the faculty (besides the lectures). Thanks again!
  8. Hi guys! Since I'm considering to apply to the programme, I would like to ask to the current students to share their impressions about it. So, what do you think, up to now? are you satisfied? Any information about the environment (like average age and preparation of students - if they already have a master, for example- ), the level of courses and usage of quantitative tools like matlab, and so forth will be welcome! Say, all the things you would have liked to know before to enrol... Thanks for your thoughts!
