  1. That's a nice sentiment, but let's be real here. You can never make it into a respected economics doctoral program, and on the off chance that you do, you will never make it out. I'm not trying to be mean; it's just a fact that straight Bs and Cs after precalculus and trigonometry are a certain recipe for disaster, both in admissions and in coursework. If anyone says otherwise, they are completely delusional. Seriously, sugar-coating this with lies and false encouragement is cruel, disrespectful, and a great disservice.
  2. I dropped out of my PhD in economics in the first year. I rode my bicycle to class, and when I started wishing that a car would hit me so that I could take a medical leave and never come back, I realized that it was time to file my withdrawal papers instead. How are everyone else's first years? :encouragement:
  3. Don't you get it?? There won't be any job market paper! Not with the attitude toward math displayed by the original poster. Most people on this forum have no business in an economics PhD, but the big lie perpetuated by charlatans like Steven Leavitt that the math is anywhere this side of Neptune in terms of reasonableness, as well as the irrationally optimistic, ultimately unhelpful people on this forum, have pushed who knows how many people off a cliff and into something they don't want and can't possibly finish.
  4. Everyone is so hung up on "intuition" and "creativity" and blah blah blah. Good luck with that if you can't get past any of the first year courses.
  5. Yeah, I hate to be a downer, but if you have any doubts about your math ability then you are in the wrong field. Econ is all about how good you are at math; little else matters.
  6. With grades like that, the chance of a Ph.D. is near 0. I graduated in the top 2% of my class at a top liberal arts school in economics and lasted two months in my Ph.D. program before I had to drop out because it was a nightmare straight from hell. I'm still angry about it every day. Good luck.
