  1. Colorado probably isn't a good match if you are interested in behavioral research. Here is a link to some info on Colorado's program http://aaahq.org/temp/phd/StudyMaterials/Questions/UnivOfColorado.pdf None of Colorado's professors or PHD students were doing behavioral research at the time of this survey. I'm also interested in CU's program (for financial archival research) if anyone else has any insight.
  2. I'm planning on applying to PhD schools in accounting next year and I'm considering buying a laptop. Is it typical for PhD Accounting programs to provide a laptop or a stipend for a laptop to students? If so, I'll probably hold off on buying one now.
  3. I'm considering pursuing a PhD in accounting and had a few questions before I get too far into the process. I will likely apply next Fall to begin in Fall of '15. I'm a CPA and a CFE with 2 yrs public accounting experience, 1 yr as a fraud investigator, and currently work as a Treasurer for a city. I'm also married with 3 kids. My major concern is the effect that the PhD will have on my family. I'm wondering how tough it is to be a PhD student and still maintain a healthy balance between school and family. I'm also concerned about the financial impact of being a PhD student. Is the ADS program still granting scholarships to new students? If so, how difficult is it to obtain an ADS scholarship and what is the application process? Also, can student loan money be used for living expenses?
