Hello Guys, Please help me.I am confused about which university to choose to do a masters in Petroleum Economics. Is there any professional in this field? Please advise me.Which is the best to study Petroleum Economics in Eourope: IFP school or University of Aberdeen.Or something other school you can advise. When I search for the IFP school's ranking,I dont find any satisfying result and it really bothers me. Does ranking really matters? However, courses in IFP school attract me,because of its diversity(both technical and economic modules) while at the University of Aberdeen's Petroleum,Energy Economics and Finance course focuses only on economic side of the industry. Also, can I join the technical divisions in petroleum companies with the Petroleum Economics and Management degree from IFP school?(Note that I have a Bachelor degree in Industrial Economics and Management).Furhermore,I have seen Metals and Energy Finance programme by Imperial College London, which also combines technical and economic aspects of the energy industry. So,Which one would you prefer? Alumnis of IFP school and industry professionals please help to reach a decision. Thanks in advanc

  8. http://www.www.urch.com/forums/attachments/ielts/6946-please-grade-my-task-1-qw.pnghttp://www.www.urch.com/forums/attachments/ielts/6947-please-grade-my-task-1-df.png The table below shows CO2 emissions for different forms of transport in the European Union. The Pie Chart shows the percentage of European Union funds being spent on different forms of transport. The graph demonstrates the amount of carbon-dioxide that is released by different means of transport in the EU, and the pie chart compares the proportion of expenditure on various types of transport. It can be clearly seen that airplanes contribute the biggest amount of CO2 to the air. It is also noticeable that roads receive more than half of the total funding of transportation. Looking more closely, we can see that about 370 grams per passenger is emitted by the planes, while the figure for private cars is just nearly 130 grams per head. Sea transport and railways pollute the air almost at the same level, with 50 grams per person. Coaches, however, produce the least amount of CO2 in comparison with the other means of transport (roughly 40 grams) Roads are considered the most important form of transportation as they get 52% of the whole funding. Railways and public transports are financed by 31% and 10% of the EU’s budget respectively. European Union set aside only 5% of its financial resources for the remaining forms of travelling altogether.
  9. Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school.Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages? It is sometimes argued that children should start learning a second language since primary school instead of secondary school. While there are convincing points both for and against of this opinion, I personally believe that advantages of this statement are superior to its disadvantages. On the one hand, it is understandable that learning another language can be a burden for younger children. For example, as there are more important subjects such as math, science or mother tongue, an extra language module can let children back from learning these basic and essential subjects. This, in turn, may demotivate young pupils to study fully focused due to loads of materials. On the other hand, however, there are some benefits of learning a foreign language at primary school. Firstly, teaching any given subject as well as a language in younger ages is relatively easy, as kids can catch up everything they taught instantly and remember it for a long period of time or even sometimes this knowledge can stay with them over the whole lifetime. Secondly, by teaching a second language to children, we can extract their linguistic abilities and improve them further. For instance, there might be talented students in terms of linguistic skills, and they can be trained in this field more deeply. Finally, if children learn any other language, it can help them to grow up more intellectually. For example, they can watch some TV programs or movies in foreign languages. To sum up, I would argue that the benefits of learning a foreign language beginning from junior school years do outweigh its drawbacks.
  10. It is generally believed that some people are born with certain talents, for instance for sport or music, and others are not. However, it is sometimes claimed that any child can be taught to become a good sports person or musician.Discuss both views and give your opinion. People have different views about becoming a professional in certain fields such as sport and music. Although there are good arguments in favor of inherited skills that are considered a vital to be a good sportsman or musician, I personally believe that anyone can be a professional by training. There is a group of people claiming that well-known and talented people are born with certain skills. They assert that being good at some fields comes from one’s genes. A good example of this can be Ronaldo or Messi. These football players are exceptionally talented that no one can reach their power and performance in spite of hard training sessions. This means that this sort of people are gifted. As such, famous musician like Bethoven or Motzart can be included to this list. They had unordinary musical talent that not many people possess. Another group, by contrast, feel that everyone can be taught to be a skilled in music or sport. They concede that everybody has a capability of being a good sportsman or composer. To take the famous Hollywood sportsman and actor- Silvester Stallone as an example, he was very weak physically in his childhood that everyone laughed at him. However, later on, he trained hard and eventually became such a strong sportsman. Hence, it is felt that a human-being can do anything, if he or she has an intention for it .To sum up, while there are some convincing points about being skillful hereditary, from my perspective, however, a hard work and deduction is a key to become a professional in any field.
  11. Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others, however, think that change is always a good thing. Discuss both views and give your opinion. People have different views about whether it is good to live a life according to the same routine or it is worthwhile to change something frequently. Although there are good arguments in favor of spending a lifetime doing the same things, I personally believe that living in different ways is more beneficial. The group of people, who does not want to make some changes for a long period of time, argues that it takes a while to learn and get used to something new. For example, if a mechanic is a professional in his field using the conventional equipment, he would probably face some difficulties to use modernized and advanced technology in his work. Unsurprisingly, the mechanic would not accept the new and modern tools, as he may lose his job due to lack of practical knowledge. This trend is occurred more frequently among the older people. However, those, who are open to any type of changes, life may seem to be boring if they live a monotony lifestyle. They assert that altering things consistently makes life more interesting and colorful. For instance, taking up a new hobby can be a deserving way of spending leisure time. Also, these people often try themselves in new areas such as playing new games, eating dinner out. Besides this, in this case, these people are more likely to be a more experienced citizen, and to have a broader outlook. To sum up, there are convincing points both for and against to do the same things, but I believe that experiencing some changes is always better.

Creative artists should always be given the freedom to express their own ideas (in words, pictures, music or film) in whichever way they wish. There should be no government restrictions on what they do. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? It is sometimes argued that whether creative artists should be allowed to be independent on the way they convey their thoughts and feelings on their works or there should always be a state control over them. Personally, I firmly believe that it is vital to have a governmental influence on these works. First of all, such artists can often have unordinary ideas and these can be provocative in some cases. For instance, movie directors have the power to form an attitude towards a particular subject. To be more specific, Muslims are being presented as a terrorist in some Hollywood films today, while it is completely wrong. Beside of this, these films can cause resentment between countries because of issues in politics being discussed. Furthermore, these ideas can ruin the youngsters’ psychology to some extent, which might change the direction of their lifestyles. A good example of this can be rock music, particularly the heavy rock. Generally, rock music always contains some hard feelings and tension, which is admired by the majority of the teens. Also, rock music spread the idea of worshipping for the Satan, which is utterly unacceptable in some cultures, especially in the Eastern countries. As such, the younger people are considered as a potential labor force for a country. Thus, protecting the teenagers may, in some ways, mean protecting of economy. To sum up, for the above-mentioned reasons, therefore, I am convinced that governments should always keep these artists under control in order to prevent any possible threat against the country as well as its population.
  13. Some people think that spending a lot on holding wedding parties, birthday parties and other celebrations is just a waste of money. Others, however, think that these are necessary for individuals and the society. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Nowadays, it is a common practice to spend a huge amount of money on the special occasions such as wedding ceremonies and birthday parties. There is a group of people who claim that it has some benefits for the community, while another group argues that it is a pointless effort. The supporters of the argument, which is in favor of spending much money on these parties, contend that special ceremonies happen rarely in the lifetime of a human. A good example of this can be wedding ceremonies. In most cases marriage takes place only for once. Therefore, it should be as much fascinating and unforgettable as possible and should be provided the amount of money that is needed. Also, it is felt that by making these occasions so rich, the value and respect can be shown towards the family institution. Thus, a couple would respect and protect their family life in the future. The opponents of this view, however, assert that it would be meaningless to spend such a tremendous amount of money only for one day. To take the above-mentioned example again, it can pose some problems for the couple after the wedding day. To be more specific, they may take a loan from a bank in order to afford organizing such an expensive event. Later on, it might be difficult to pay its interests off. Instead of this, this money can be saved and spent more rationally in the further stages of marriage life i.e. when having a baby. To sum up, from my perspective, it can be considered a trivial spending of money and I would say that it can be directed to more crucial factors of social life.

Modern children are suffering from the diseases that were once considered to be meant for adults only. Obesity is a major disease prevalent among children. What are its causes and what solutions can be offered? It is true that in modern age child obesity is one of the most common diseases. There are several reasons that can make children more fattened. The first major reason can be fast foods that produced for school pupils. The ingredients in these fast foods can increase the amount of fat in an organism and thus lead to obesity. Another main root of this problem might be children, nowadays, are not involved in physical activities and sports. As a result, nutrients are not burned and cause fatness. However, of course, there are possible steps that can facilitate to deal with such a wide spread matter. Firstly, fast food producers should include less amount of calorie when making foods. This, in turn, can reduce the amount of albumen which is considered the main cause of obesity. Also, in this case, parents can be more confident and let their children eat how many fast foods per day they want, because low-calorie foods can stop their hunger without causing to gain weight. An additional solution to cope with this issue is to motivate the youngsters to do more exercise. To do this, both governments and parents should be willing and work co-operatively. For instance, governments can open sport clubs with lower prices in order to allow parents to afford its monthly payments. Meanwhile, parents should motivate children to go these clubs and to join sport societies. In consequence, it can produce two-fold positive outcome. First, it can prevent obesity among the children, and the second one is make children to get used to healthy life. To sum up, from my perspective, by carrying out above-mentioned ways of solution, the level of obesity among children could be declined dramatically and even can be abolished entirely.

Some people think that schools should select students according to their academic abilities, while others believe that it is better to have students with different abilities studying together. Discuss both views and state your own opinion. In today’s world there is a continuing debate about many issues regarding education in schools. One of the largely discussed problems is that some people think that schools should accept students who have a particular level of academic knowledge, while others are in opposition of this view. The opponents of this opinion argue that by having pupils with different academic skills in one school, a rivalry can be established among them. For example, if it is a mix of high-skilled and low-skilled school, the latter would try to reach to that group of better academic ability. As a result, competition would be strengthened among pupils, because hard-workers would try to go far beyond in terms of studies. The supporters of this statement, however, claim that it would be better if schools choose its students based on their study skills. In other words, if students study at the schools where their mates are in around the same level, then these students would not distracted by others who are weaker by academic ability, and thus it can lead to high-rated academic results i.e. getting into university after graduation. Also, it might be beneficial in terms of social relationships among pupils. This means students in these type of schools can understand and get on well one another. To take my school as an example, it is called “Special Talented Group” where nearly all the students have high records of grades and is considered one of the reputable schools in our city. To sum up, it seems to me that creating such a special kind of school and accepting students from a certain background would be worthwhile. Furthermore, it can be considered as honor to get accepted to one of those schools.
  16. Many offenders commit more crimes after serving the first punishment. Why is this happening, and what measures can be taken to tackle this problem? It is a fact that many criminals reoffend after being released from prisons. The main and most likely reason can be they may get habit of committing a crime if they have done it for once. In consequence, those prisoners can be more dangerous for the community and ruin people’s peaceful life after exemption. There are several possible measures that related bodies can take in order to prevent recommitting a crime tendency. First of all, governments can combat with this serious matter by imposing severe punishment standards. For example, if an offender repeats any crime, they might be punished with the life sentence or capital punishment. By applying such legislation system convicts would be threatened and thus avoided to reoffend. In this case, penalties and prisons would act as a deterrent. Second useful tool to cope with this problem might be educating criminals in jails. In other words, once an individual have committed a crime and locked away, they should be taught about harms of crime, and should be motivated to become a more decent citizen for the community. This way of solution may have twofold positive effect: one can be preventing crimes, another one may be turning those murderers into well-educated person and this would be more useful for society. Another way might be providing psychological courses for criminals. For instance, if they are explained their faults, its reasons and how can they find an option so that not to offend, it may produce positive outcomes. This should be carried out by special trained professionals in psychology, who can be tolerant dealing with such dangerous members of society. To sum up, I would like to stress that if above-mentioned ways of solution are implemented, the authorities can diminish crime rate to a reasonable level and the community would also benefit from this legal system.

In many countries children are engaged in some kind of paid work. Some people regard this as completely wrong, while others consider it a valuable work experience, which is important for learning and taking responsibility. What is your opinion? In some cultures young children are involved in working for a little amount of money. There are some people who argue that forcing children to work in early ages is utterly unacceptable, while others think that it would be beneficial in terms of having work experience since childhood. The supporters of the point ,which rejects the view that children should work , claim that it would be wise to motivate the youngers to study well and they should be delivered high-quality education. This means a better education can affect more positively to the rest of their lives rather than early working habits. For example, a well-educated child can be a decent citizen for community and in other aspects of life, i.e. being a parent ,wife or husband. Another convincing point of this opinion is that adults should not interfere children’s early life and steal their joy of childhood. In other words, making kids work for money can keep them under stress in early ages as well as later in life. For instance, a child who always works for a certain amount of money, can be dependent of materialism and cannot formulate humanist characters such as helpfulness, love , caring about others. The opponents of this view, however, feel that by working in childhood kids can gain some crucial work experience and understand value and necessity of money. Furthermore, they will learn taking responsibility since younger years. In particular, if a child can understand the difficulty of life,he or she always be prepared for these challenges. In conclusion, although it must be said that both views have true sides, I would say that it would be wise to let the children live their life as a child and they should be taught to pay more attention to education or other qualities of humans rather than taking responsibility of gaining money.
  18. The Internet when used as a source of information, has more drawbacks than advantages. To what extent do you agree with this statement? Some people believe that internet access creates problems. There are several possible reasons why it can happen. Firstly, some data may be unverifiable. For example, everytime they search for a data, there would be lots of choices that would appear on the screen. They would not be sure if the information they are reading is accurate. Some sources may even have outdated informations. Secondly, some sites may be unreliable. For instance, people sign up on one site that sells goods online. The goods would be paid for by a credit card, but the purchaser would not receive anything. And finally, not everything is available through the net. When my friend had tried to research for some pictures of 18th century paintings, he did not find any results. Then he was told by his teacher that they would only be available in the library. Others believe that the Internet is very useful and these are the justifications. Firstly, it is hard to get the same data, that is available through the Internet by other means. For example, if the directory information could not give me the accurate address and contact number of a place I want to visit, I normally check that information on the Internet. In just one click, I would get all the details of that certain company. Secondly, research becomes more comprehensive. For instance, I do not have to buy lots of reading materials to complete my research. Most of the needed information can be found if I have Internet access. And finally, data is easily compared and contrasted. I remember, my cousin researched a study about overweight children a decade ago and at present. He was able to finish his research in just one day, as compared to a week if he would not use the Internet. In conclusion, let me reiterate that the Internet plays a big role in our life, because it makes data retrieval and comparison easier. This is a good essay, the arguments are clear, the language and the grammar are also fine. The structure needs to be improved a little bit – make paragraphs smaller, re-structure them to create 5 paragraphs from 4. In case of an argument essay – give your opinion in the conclusion only. In case of an opinion essay – give your opinion in the introduction
  19. ok.I'll try these .Thanks for your help Mike.May Allah bless you.
  20. Thanks Mike. Yes,I did,but not much detailed as new ideas come to my mind while i'm writing. In conclusions I can't restate my opinion in more than 2 sentences. That's why my conclusions are too simple. What would you advise me about that?
  21. Should wealthy nations be required to share their wealth with poorer nations by providing them with things such as food and education? Or is this the responsibility of the governments of poorer nations to look after their citizens? It is a fact that in today's world there are tremendous differences between countries in terms of economy, education, health, etc . In this case,it has long been discussed that whether highly developed countries have to care about the poorer nations or it is those countries’, which are underdeveloped, responsibility to meet its population’s demands .However, I believe that both views should be taken into account. First of all, there are many under-developed countries which cannot compete with wealthy ones in such a strong rivalry in this economic world. It is obvious that these countries should focus on improving its economy, education, health in order to reach the world’s top countries. When coping with developing the power of economy, poor developed nations can benefit from developed countries’ experience in all fields. To take III World countries in Africa as an example, these countries can sign a contract with “Great 8s” countries such as the USA, The UK, Germany, France to receive help in all fields. Furthermore, the powerful states like the USA, the UK, which have also political leading throughout the globe, should consider that we are all human-beings and live in the same land. Thus ,they should try to contribute to poorer nations’ economy. A good example of this is Red Cross Committee, which help developing countries by giving humanitarian, food as well as psychological help to poorer nations, which suffer from starving ,various kinds of diseases. Nevertheless, there are many experts out there who claim that it is only up to underdeveloped governments to think about how to improve. However, I guess that it would be a shortsighted view as we know that it is really tough dealing with economic hindrances. To sum up, it seems to me that poorer states should make efforts to improve its citizens’ well-being and in this stage they can get help from developed nations.

What band would you give for this essay? Foreign visitors should pay more than local visitors for cultural and historical attractions. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? It is sometimes argued that tourists from overseas should be charged more than local residents to visit important sites and monuments. I completely disagree with this idea. The argument in favour of higher prices for foreign tourists would be that cultural or historical attractions often depend on state subsidies to keep them going, which means that the resident population already pays money to these sites through the tax system. However, I believe this to be a very shortsighted view. Foreign tourists contribute to the economy of the host country with the money they spend on a wide range of goods and services, including food, souvenirs, accommodation and travel. The governments and inhabitants of every country should be happy to subsidise important tourist sites and encourage people from the rest of the world to visit them. If travellers realised that they would have to pay more to visit historical and cultural attractions in a particular nation, they would perhaps decide not to go to that country on holiday. To take the UK as an example, the tourism industry and many related jobs rely on visitors coming to the country to see places likeWindsor Castle or Saint Paul’s Cathedral. These two sites charge the same price regardless of nationality, and this helps to promote the nation’s cultural heritage. If overseas tourists stopped coming due to higher prices, there would be a risk of insufficient funding for the maintenance of these important buildings. In conclusion, I believe that every effort should be made to attract tourists from overseas, and it would be counterproductive to make them pay more than localresidents.
