  1. Dear Follicle, Thank you very much for the encouraging words, I reached almost at the bottom of my motivation level to apply to US schools....Your words atleast lift me up a bit. By the way, could you please name some of the higher ranked ones you mentioned in your post? I would then give it a try.......TYA
  2. Thanks a lot XanthusARES and YaSvoboden I know my quant is not well enough, in GRE is is 83percentile and in GMAT it is 85percentile. I don't think a retake will work. So I am gonna try the above schools (except Amherst) with this score. Fingers crossed.

  4. In performing a sequence of experiments, a scientist made 20 measurements. The average (arithmetic mean) of these measurements was 34. For security reasons the scientist coded the data by multiplying each of the measurements by 10 and then adding 40 to each product. What is the average of the coded measurements? (A) 1,140 (B) 380 © 342 (D) 57 (E) 19 Answer:
  5. An “Armstrong number” is an n-digit number that i s equal to the sum of the nth powers of its individual digits. For example, 153 is an Armstrong number because it has 3 digits and 1^3 + 5^3+ 3^3= 153 . What is the digit k in the Armstrong number 1, 6k4?
  6. Thats a helpful comment...thanks YaSvoboden. and point noted about the school ranking
  7. what to do! being from a third world country, i had a lot of constraints. i had to do the first masters to get my desired job, second one as a bridge to phd. But, later on I realized that doing a phd from the same uni/country will be a mistake. So, now i am preparing for a better PhD. Hope I will be able to explain my circumstances in my essay. anyways, thanks
  8. Hello forum, I am preparing to apply for a PhD in Finance in 2016. I already have some math courses done. But, i was wandering whether i need any more math courses to strengthen my profile. I am not that ambitious. Schools ranking around 20-50th is okay for me. And my target area of PhD is corporate finance Undergrad (Finance): 3.80/4 from an Asian University, MBA in Finance: 3.85/4 from the same undergrad university Master of Business Research (Finance): 3.86/4 (equivalent to 6.75/7) from a reputed Australian University Math courses: Calculus I-III, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Statistics and Real Analysis GRE: 153V, 167Q, 5AWA Research Paper: Two int'l papers: One on Capital Structure another on Corporate Governance. Besides I am on the process of publishing my master's thesis in Australia. I am currently pursuing a Ms in Economics where i will have Micro-I, Micro-II, Macro-I, Macro-II, Econometrics, Game theory and some other financial economics based courses. Do you think some more math courses like ODE, PDE, numerical analysis, abstract algebra, optimization and etc offered by my the mathematics department will gain weight to my admission application? Or, i am okay with my current profile? I look forward to hearing from you.
  9. Dear rsaylors, Which programs prefer young people to old ones? Is there any list? Or, do I have to have a rough guess from the 'Average age' in their website.....
  10. Hello, How important is 'age' in getting admission to PhD in finance. From a couple of guy's admission experiences I find that it is really an issue in North America. With almost same qualifications, a 40 years old guy had to struggle several time, but could not work out to a top-tier school, but a 27 years old guy could easily get into. Does anyone know how important it is in European Finance Schools? Comments are much appreciated.
