[h=2]Hello! [/h]
I am looking to gain some insight for how to best prepare for a MS/PhD in Economics (my area of interest is resource and environmental economic). I am currently finishing my degree in an unrelated field. After talking to a few professors at my school I have developed a plan to prepare for a a Phd program (however I would consider doing an MS first, if thats recommended). I would be grateful for any feedback on my plan you could provide me with?
Planning to Take
Math Prep: Multivariable Calc, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, and Real Analysis
Econ Prep: Labor Economics, Advanced Topics in Development and International Trade, International Trade, Resource Economics
Have Taken
Econometrics (Sadly I took it pass/no pass, because I was not planing on pursuing econ)
Micro (A)
Macro (A)
Climate Change Econ (A-)
Intonation Finance (A)
Stats (A-)
Pol Econ Theory (classical and modern, both A)
Info about my school
Top tier big name school with very strong Econ and Math departments
A few specific questions
What are some programs that might be appropriate for me?
Can I take some of the math outside my very competitive school, or will that reflect poorly?
Are there any additional math classes I should take?
Any other advice?
Once Professor told me I should try and get a research position when I have more math under my belt, my other professor said just go to office hours and ask smart questions to get recommendations, who is right?
Thank you!
