  1. I am looking at FSU and they have GRE minimums of 151(Q) and 148 (v) (link below). This is extremely low compared to economics interest scores, mean of 160 (Q) & 154(V), from ETS (Link below). FSU doesn't have a bad ranking on US News(#64), can someone explain this to me. I also have been taking online finish-anytime math courses from a large state school to complete the math requirements for PhD programs, but I will most likely not finished my last class(linear) before the applications deadlines in January and February. Will this hurt my application? fsu.edu | The Application Process http://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/gre_guide.pdf (page 30)
  2. Are there other ways to prove I know what I am getting myself into/willing to finish the program other than LOR, not that they will be a problem I just want to increase my chances
  3. I am at small liberal arts college. Do you think the published economics papers will help support my willingness to finish the program?
  4. I took stats as well and got an A, it was through the business department not the math dept.
  5. I am a senior in college in the US. I am currently a double major in Business Management & Accounting (more on that later). I am taking some online math classes so I should have completed Calc I&II and Linear Algebra(the minimum for the schools I would like to get into, Florida State and Claremont. GPA 3.5 Econ classes: Macro(A), Micro(A-), International Financial markets(A), econometrics (A), Health Care economics(in process), Behavioral economics & research(in process) By the end of this semester I should have 2 published papers (in undergrad journals) in economics. Part 1: Accounting major I am a double major in business in accounting, and thinking about dropping accounting. Will the double major impress a school? Would it look bad with only a business management degree? I am planning on adding a econ minor, how much will that help? I had the accounting as a back up plan, but I would really hate doing accounting. Part 2: Will anyone take me? Can I get into any schools? More importantly ones with TA/RA positions to help me pay for school? Will accounting major or econ minor help or hurt my cause? What else can I do to have a better chance? Will more math help?
  6. I am a senior in college and I am interest in two specific schools, ranked 58 & 64 on US news. I heard from one of my current professors you are supposed to build a relationship with the faculty before applying. But how? Do I send them a random email saying I like their research and have a couple of interesting potential research topics? Will they even respond? I am lost here and do not really understand academia culture.
  7. So what if I audit those classes like calc and linear algebra
  8. What US Econ PhD programs require a MA in Econ? I am specifically interested in the top schools as well as Claremont Graduate School.
  9. I am a senior double major in business management and accounting and I am interested in getting my PhD in econ. I have not taken many math classes in college (business calculus & finite math) but I have taken a lot of econ classes and done well(I think all A's). I have one more year but don't have enough credit hours to finish my double majors and take math classes. I also took econometrics and got an A. I know self-taught math will hurt my application to PhD programs but by how much? Is there no way I can get into a top 50,100 program? Is there a standardized test I can take to prove my math abilities?
