  1. As for me, I stopped the constant refreshing/checking after my first and only admit. I forgot TGC existed for a few days actually.
  2. Nice. I have only one offer, so I'm very excited! Do you guys know what is the best way to get from NYC to Ithaca? Is Short Line (Coach USA) or Greyhound better?
  3. Anybody else visiting Cornell this Monday (March 23)?
  4. Institution Name: MIT Sloan School of Management Concentration: Operations Management Date of Notification: 3/14/2015 Type of Notification: Email Notification: Interview (Skype) Posted on GradCafe?: No Comments: General questions about interests and background
  5. Same as you, I still havent heard anything. I emailed them last week asking about my status and visit days (so that I can plan my US trip). I was told that they "hope to send out decisions by the beginning of [this] week" and that the "open house for admitted students" will be on April 1st and April 2nd. no clue about the one acceptance on TGC today though...
  6. I was the one who posted that UCSD visit days are on 4/1 and 4/2. I emailed to ask and was told of such info by the graduate program coordinator.
  7. I'm still waiting for Duke as well. Hopefully, we're on some sort of waiting list?
  8. Institution: Cornell University Program: Economics, PhD Decision: Accepted Funding: Full with first year fellowship Notification Date: 3/9/15 Notified Through: Email Posted on GC: Yes Comments: Off the waitlist, first acceptance
  9. For Duke: https://applicants.siss.duke.edu I havent received anything either. Anybody know when UCSD is coming out?
  10. Good luck everyone! the MPhil experience is great.
  11. Just email the program and tell them what you're telling us. It shouldnt give a negative impression.
  12. A US math major is usually just: Calc 1 2 3, Intro to proof course, real analysis, linear algebra, abstract algebra, probability, complex analysis, geometry course, differential equations, number theory, topology, plus a few more of your choice. So you're not missing much. Abstract algebra, complex, geometry, number theory are of little use in economics.
  13. So it's basically PhD admission without first year funding, right? This reminds me of reference point a la Kahneman and Tversky (1979)! haha I just googled: the April 15 resolution applies to funded offer only. So Yes, in this case they can ask you to respond in 5 days.
  14. Have fun on that side, SystemicRisk! and congrats again on your impressive results.
  15. Me too! and I'm so glad I applied as well.
  16. and i got one! I feel like crying, first non-negative news after 10-12 rejections (i lost count!). Now what can I do? I'm in Europe and it would be a pain to visit on March 23 (need to apply for US visa). Thank you the support all along guys.
  17. Since you're applying in the next cycle, you will have some grades to show them by then, am I right? Is it a two-year program? From my experience, if you do really well on the exams (one of the top in your cohort), you will go far (top 10). One thing UK students lack, though, is RA experience. Most succesful applicants to top 10 in the US have serious RA after undergrad (FED, RA at top 5, IMF, etc...). So it's a good idea to apply for RAships as you have mentioned. As for letter writers: make sure to get someone with great US connections e.g. PhDs from top 5 US, taught in top 5 US, coauthors in US.
  18. ooo Cornell waitlists are out...sigh
  19. I believe it's ApplyWeb for Cornell. I have nothing on mine yet.
  20. I'm curious...what's going on with University of Calgary? is it just someone making a fuss after a painful rejection or is there something more?
  21. You have a solid 3.8 math from a top 20 math with an econ RA experience...from my experience, you have a really good chance at Ox (or Cam) MPhil. Just wait and see.
  22. Out of undergrad, I had a similar profile to you +few grad courses - research (which should cancel out from the perspectives of MPhil at Ox and Camb). When I applied (3 years ago) I had V154 Q167 AW3.5 and got in to both Oxford and Cambridge. Feel free to pm if you have specific questions about Oxford.
  23. After all the disappointments, I'm still here hanging by a thread (this thread). Still waiting for: Berkeley, UCSD, Cornell, MIT Sloan, and Oxford. Given up on: Harvard, UPenn, Duke, and Booth
