  1. AgentK, let me localize wannabephd's statements for you. I'm from India and an MBA from Top-5 B-school and was in a very comfortable managerial role. I struggled with my app process since I didn't have anything to showcase my interest in research (no papers n all that). But when I thought of a Ph.D, publications, publications and publications were the only things that I had in mind. I'm happy that a couple of universities did consider me and I'll be joining one of them in a month's time. While I appreciate Indus's suggestion of trying FPM, I know that the IIM profs these days are very serious in picking their RAs. So even FPM isn't a cake walk. I'm not at all aware of the IIML Part Time FPM so I will not comment on that. Just a word of caution. I know of a person, an acquaintance, who is from a similar background and started his PhD (4 years back) in the US. He returned back after 2 years since publications was not what he wanted to do and the school wasn't kind enough to let him continue. Last time I heard from him, he was still very unsettled.
  2. I do not want to believe that there's any difference. The coursework that you have to complete during your PhD studies takes care of the differences (if any).
  3. You might be interested to look into Information Systems/Technologies department of a few Business schools like MIT, Minnesota, Maryland, NYU etc. A couple of professors have started to get into IoT research there. Honestly, I do not see a link between strategy and IoT but my knowledge might be limited. However, like a couple of them suggested above, an Information School (Engineering) would be a better place for your interest.
  4. From my experience, IIMs do not have a structured RAship program and profs from top 3 iims generally do not entertain email requests. You might have to fly down just to meet them. If you track the ISB RAship announcement, it gets filled up in under a week. So there are a lot of people who're trying to get into such roles. Reiterating what others have told above, doing the following will help: 1) Contact your profs - the ones who're research active. If you don't find any, atleast connect with those profs who've published books or were research active a few years back. 2) Improve your GMAT (do not take any target below 740). Improve your TOEFL to 110+ as well (Ross, Booth has a higher cut off, just to quote) 3) Try n publish your MBA dissertation. This will need A LOT OF work, right from data collection. 4) Try n connect with a professor (works for a European school) via your professors. They might help you.
  5. Jeez. I've ordered 2 pairs of spectacles, one for light reading and other for outside use. Should have waited till I completed a semester or so.. :( Anyways, I plan to start following one of the following sports : Basketball, baseball or Football. Which one helps in socializing better?
  6. Hey Endrist, what's the "lemnar" equivalent for a fortnight? Because I'm currently going through one such fortnight :D
  7. Congratulations :) Gut feel works most of the times..
  8. Institution Name: Yale Concentration: Marketing (Quant) Date of Notification: February 26th Type of Notification: E-mail to check website. Notification: Rejection Posted on GradCafe?: Yes Comments: I hope this is one great end to my Endristlemnar (19th to 26th February) :)
  9. So at this point in time, I see 2 categories of people.. 1) Ones with loads of acceptances. 2) Ones receiving 3-4 rejections per week and yet to hear their first "I do". Clear Black n White, here, I see [Yoda Style]
  10. 2 more CA schools left (1 North n 1 South).. A couple more in the east coast.. All I want is one YES :)
  11. 2 of the Californian schools officially kicked me out this week. Now these were ambitious apps, no doubt. However, I don't feel bad about it. At this point in time, they have helped me reduce anxiety :)
  12. Looks like you're already mentally ready for executing plan B. Atleast, I am :)
  13. UCB also hasn't moved. I don't want to believe that USC has moved either (only rejection movements as of now). California !!
  14. Someone posted in TGC that the Stanford acceptance post was a spam (she/he verified it with the admissions team apparently). People playing games :)
  15. The main question is, how many magical words have you read already :D
  16. My everyday mantra. The last ever email to me from any of the schools has been 10 days back !! Thats like a lot !!. I'm repeating wannabephd's words.. No News is Good news..
  17. Truly hope that you're right :) I hope that (slightly) increases our chances of making to a good program..
  18. Hi seniors. One of my friends who's currently with one of the top PhD programs told me that the universities are facing funding crunch this year and that the intake might be a lot lesser than last year. 1) Any merits to his comments? 2) Will the Business schools (which I assume are always cash rich due to their MBA programs) have funding crunch etc considering that they take only 2-3 per dept. per year?
  19. My condition is even horrible. My timezone is such that the emails from these programs invariably reach me well past midnight. I sleep at night praying that I have "some" mails in my inbox when I wake up. This wait has made me insomniac I think :(
  20. Seniors.. What are your thoughts on waitlist movements? If someone can quote from their experience, I'd be really thankful..
  21. Really hoping to know if someone got an interview call for Carlson (Minnesota) Quant Track? TGC and a few posts here suggest CB shortlist and I don't have a reason to believe Quant calls have not been sent out. But just hoping to ascertain what I think.
