Hi, I'm a recent graduate of a T50 (T20 public) university, majored in economics, minored in statistics. After a year of working and reflecting on what I want to do, I've decided to go back and pursue a masters with the goal of entering a PhD program in the fall of 2017. I'll be entering an MA program with a good history of placements into T50 PhD programs. Below are my undergrad stats, along with the courses I'll be taking as a masters student.
Type of Undergrad: T20 Public University (Big Ten)
Undergrad GPA: 3.57
Type of Grad: MA Economics, Eventual goal is PhD
Grad GPA: Not entered yet
GRE: 162V 167Q 4.0 AW
Math Courses: Calc I (B+) Calc 2(B+) Calc 3(B) Differential Equations (B) Linear Algebra (B) Stats 1 (A) Stats 2(B+) Mathematical Statistics (B) Econometrics (A-) Applied Statistics (B-), Will be taking Real analysis next year
Econ Courses (grad-level): Will take: Advanced Micro and Macro, Econometrics, Mathematical Economics, Time Series Analysis, International Monetary Policy, Real Analysis, Applied Econometric Methods, Summer Research Thesis, possibly another math course
Econ Courses (undergrad-level): Micro (A), Macro(A), Int Micro (A-) Int Macro (A-), Industrial Org (A), International Econ (A-), Public Sector Econ (B), Utility Theory (B)
Letters of Recommendation: Will ideally be from graduate instructors/thesis advisor/etc.
Research Experience: Will be working as a research assistant during MA program
Teaching Experience: Will be working as a teaching assistant during MA program
Research Interests: Industrial Org, Econometrics, International Economics
Concerns: Low math grades
My worries are largely centered around my performance in mathematics as an undergraduate. I've confident, however, that I can and will put in the necessary effort to improve my performance as a masters student to prepare me for a PhD program. If, as a masters student, I were able to earn all A's/A-'s, where would I stand in terms of PhD potential? I'm trying to get a good feel for that as I move forward.
