  1. Anyone else still waiting on brown? Thought we were supposed to find out by April 7th. I also haven't heard anything from the university of British columbia. Emailed them and got no response- anyone in the same boat? I would just like to know for certain so I can make my decision with my current set of acceptances!
  2. Does anyone know who the director of graduate admissions is at Brown? I can't tell if it's Oded Galor or Pedro Dal Bo. I wanted to send an email checking up on my application. Or, is there someone else I should be emailing? Thanks!
  3. Has anyone that told brown they would be interested in being considered for the masters program heard back from them? I guess I kind of seeing this as a waitlist?
  4. Do you happen to know how many students pass the qualifiers the first year?
  5. The thing about this brown offer, is that although it is unfortunate to not have first year funding, the funding for the next 4 years is so much greater than my funding at all the other schools (~10-15k more), that it would more so make up for the loans I would have to take out the first year. SO the big question is whether or not im confident enough in my ability to pass the comps into the second year of funding.
  6. I'm also considering UIUC vs. some other schools ranked above and below it. UIUC might trump the higher ranked programs for me because of their recent strong placements. Definitely something to consider. I wouldn't worry too much about the median time to completion, if you want to finish in 5 years, you can push through and do so. At lower ranked programs (like UIUC and Notre Dame), I've heard that faculty will be happy and excited to work with the motivated students, so I think its totally reasonable to finish in 5 years. Their recent hires also assure me that they are trying to increase their rankings and improve their programs, which is encouraging. And, even though neither place is ideal, I think Urbana-Champaign (cute big 10 college town) definitely beats south bend. I don't know much about Notre Dame though, so take these suggestions lightly!
  7. I talked with some people in the department who said they hopefully will be sending out info on the fellowship on Monday. They are still finalizing offers.
  8. Two questions: 1) do you guys think all the Duke acceptances have been released? For those who received a letter, did they ask something similar to minnesota (whether you will accept or not so they can send out more offers?) 2) has anyone received confirmation of fellowship at Ohio State?
  9. If it's UPenn (Wharton) then it's applied economics, which is different than the regular economics program at UPenn.
  10. Hey MooseJoy! Just stumbled upon this old thread and was curious to see where you are now in your PhD decision process. I've been working as an RA for the past year and a half and just submitted grad schools apps. I think working as an RA helped tremendously and will really boost my application: did you consider working as an RA anywhere else besides Princeton, such as the Board or the regional feds? Are you planning on going to Brown this coming year? Just curious since it's a top choice of mine too! :)
