  1. Okay. So I've been given an offer from a decent school (marketing) that I don't particularly feel excited about. Is it crazy that I'm considering turning them down and doing another year? Am I being an ignorant, arrogant loser here? Is this a stupid move to make, considering how hard it is to get an offer? Will my chance get better next year with more research experience? Exactly how much would I regret it if I decide to turn this school down and reapply next year?
  2. YES. At least let us know of our rejection in a way that respects the $70 (and 5 hours for me).
  3. Thank you so much for the thoughtful and helpful response, XanthusARES. At this point, I'm pretty much doubting every move I've made up till applications, and am pretty deep in self-doubt and can't help but feel extremely defeated. I hate to turn this forum into a sobfest but honestly the wait has left me (and probably all applicants in my shoes) helpless. I feel like at least if I know how the process is proceeding and how my chances look, I can either have hope or shake it off(pun intended) and get on with other things in my life. Thanks again for the sound advice; I hope to return with bettet news.
  4. To follow up on that question, are professors really bugged that much with such inquiry emails? I thought there would be no harm in checking in with the status of their school, but reading your comment makes me wonder just how observant/patient one has to be during the sweating out process?
  5. YAS GIRL. I can't even explain how beyond excited I felt just now reading your comment; UM, NO.
  6. I completely feel you. It's like Urch is the only friend I have (sobs)
  7. Congratulations!!! I can feel your excitement :) Are you planning on accepting?
  8. As someone who's been fully exploiting modern technological advances (i.e. email), I say there's no harm in shooting them an email. The trick would just be to coyly fish out an answer.
  9. Starting a new season of Game of Thrones to brush off the pit of rejections, and the angst(or rather, slow death) from waiting to hear back from schools that were willing to give me a go. I wish they would hurry up, and by hurry up I mean HAVE ME PLEASE.
  10. Urgh I KNOW. the wait is killing me. a school i'm waiting for is supposed to get back to me around today-ish. don't know if the delay(or i'm just paranoid) is a good thing.
  11. Same. I guess you didn't state your specialization/interests explicitly in the SOP? (which I also didn't realize was an option)
  12. Okay. So someone posted an acceptance at UNC on TGC. This week is going to be good, hopefully.
  13. HAHA wittiest email by far, although that email subject would've given me a heart attack. You must have been ecstatic!
  14. Happy to meet someone going through this. Exactly. I feel like I do want to communicate how much I believe school A is a great fit for me, but I don't want to give the impression that they could do better. As Appinfo suggested, I should keep a clear head, and try and breathe. From a bigger perspective, the importance of choosing the "right" school for me seems so clear, but at the same time, caught up in the moment, each school news(on TGC or here) feels so personal and desolating. Perspective... Again, thanks for the advice!
  15. Thank you so much for your insight Appinfo! I guess a shortlist could indicate a myriad of things, which makes logical sense, but nonetheless makes this process even more excruciating to wait out. It helps just to know that your school accepts about half the candidates interviewed. I should be confident in the profile I've put together, but still keep in mind that half those people don't get in, and I should perform my very best till I get that "We are happy to inform you.." letter. :) Thanks again!
  16. I know somebody asked this question somewhere, but since my search skills are blinding me from that information.. In your experience, just how many people are on a shortlist? How would you describe the chances of actual acceptance as a shortlisted candidate? And is there any way (like letting them know that school A is your most preferred school maybe?) to sway the committee in your favor other than interview performance (of course giving a great interview would be the sure way, but lets assume a situation where every candidate leveled)? (Typed with sweaty palms..)
  17. As far as I know, Kellogg and Booth have some reputation for that.
  18. I've heard rumors that they let a few people go (from marketing) last year.. so your suspicion might not be that far off track.
  19. anyone have any idea how many interview offers is outstanding/ normal/ should be scared/ give up and go for next year? waiting in the dark is the most painful experience, but i guess same goes for publications and other professional experiences.. urgh
  20. Seems like Cornell sent out interview offers today.. didn't get one (hopefully yet) :'( congrats on multiple interview offers and a wait-list under your belt! WHAT'S YOUR SECRET.
