  1. I emailed UCSD last week with some questions. I got an email back on March 11th from the grad coordinator saying: At this time the committee is nearly finished reviewing applications and will send out admissions notifications by next week.
  2. Still no UCSD.... I'd be okay with getting rejected, I just want to know the decision so my choice set is finalized. This is the last school I'm waiting on.
  3. How would you compare Wisconsin, Boston University, and Cornell? I'm sure I'll learn more at the visit days, but I wonder if others have any input/suggestions. I'm interested in applied micro, particularly the classic labor/human capital type research, education, and gender/race discrimination. BU offered a first year fellowship and a bit more money, but as I know it is more expensive to live in Boston, funding offers are approximately equal other than the absence of first year TA requirements at BU. Any thoughts? I'm very unsure how I might choose between these schools.
  4. Wisconsin. And nope, they hadn't even heard about the R&R. I have to say it was one of the weirdest emails I've gotten. I was quite surprised.
  5. On the other hand, I just got accepted from a good school that had previously sent me a rejection letter. They told me they had made a mistake. Just when I'm starting to getting discouraged and jaded about this whole process, some positive news from a very unexpected source.
  6. I was just contacted with a decision on an article (solo authored) that I had submitted to a decently ranked economics journal. They've asked me to revise and resubmit. I wrote on my CV when applying to grad school that I submitted the article, but I hadn't heard anything from the journal until now. There's 5 schools I applied to that I've yet to hear from, and 2 where I'm on the wait-list. Would the schools care about this update in the article's status? How would I let them know, if so? Just a quick email?
  7. What website are people checking for Cornell. ApplyYourself? Or do they have a different website for decisions?
  8. I would strongly suggest a set of lectures by a professor at Harvey Mudd: Learnstream Rudinium The lectures basically follow the easier Rudin text (Principles of Mathematical Analysis) for the first 6 chapters or so. I found them very helpful for extra review when I was taking Real Analysis at my school. I think you could follow the lectures without much of a background in proof-writing - as compared to my actual class, the lectures went slower and took a little more time to explain proof-writing techniques. Unfortunately these lectures don't cover the entire first semester of real analysis, or at least not what was covered in my class, but they are a very good start. I'm also starting grad school in the fall, so obviously I don't know for sure, but I would bet that for econ programs what the lectures cover (and up to about Chapter 6/7 of Rudin) is probably as much as you would need.
  9. Seconding the question about duke, if anyone here can answer it. Duke was my number 1 choice and I still holding on to the slightest bit of hope - maybe more offers will be made, or even a spot on the waitlist.
  10. Waiting is the worst. I'm wondering about Duke. Last year, admission decisions were released immediately following the few interview requests they sent. Interview requests were posted on gradcafe on Sunday. I know nothing will speed up the process, but I anxiously refresh my email and gradcafe anyway... It's my dream school
  11. Is your last name later in the alphabet? Wonder if they might be doing things that way.

Within two hours of my first acceptance.
  13. I keep seeing all these UCSB decisions on grad cafe, both admits and rejections. I'm curious why I haven't heard anything yet. Is there some method to the order in which they contact people?
  14. I'm not totally sure - maybe just to check that I am who I claimed to be on my application? It seemed kind of weird to me, like if this is all the interview is going to be, why have it?
  15. Finally creating an account here instead of just lurking. It's so hard and anxiety provoking to wait for results. I'm not great at being patient. I've been checking my email, this site, and gradcafe probably way too often. The only school I've heard from so far is Virginia - I had a skype interview. It was super short, just a couple quick questions then they gave me a chance to ask some questions as well.
  16. Institution: Virginia Program: Econ PhD Decision: Interview Funding: NA Notification date: 2/2 Notified through: Email Posted on GC: Yes Comments: Had the interview already - it was quite short
  17. I found the links interesting and am reading through them. This is definitely the sort of area of econ I'm interested in studying
