  1. Thank you all guys! i had the interview and they said visa approved. =D Now, since this post is kind of spam (?) if there is some admin looking around in here, delete it (if it is to be considered spam)
  2. Hi, I apologize for posting in here, but this is the place where the most audience is. I have an appointment at the embassy scheduled for tomorrow. I just realized that my passport expires in November 2019. While the expected date of completion of studies on the I-20 is June 2020. and the gov website states "Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay in the United States" (unless exception...) even with the expection I would have the passport expired before completing the studies.. Can I still go to the embassy tomorrow and hopefully make it? Is there anyone else who had been in my shoes?
  3. Thanks everyone. Jack appreciated it. hope jack will become a user soon and join this community! everybody say "jack register on urch!" =D
  4. Hey there, I write on behalf of a friend of mine who is kind of reluctant to post own profile and so on (don't know why). Since I managed to get in a program, and he's 1 year late wrt to me, I am to help him during application process for 2016 start. Now having some personal experience I suggested him to look for info far earlier than Fall. his interests are mainly economic history and history of economic tought. so my question to the community are: - so far I wasn't able to find a "phd in econ history" so I guess he would have to take a phd econ with econ history as field specialization, am I right? Any other options? - what are the best (if possible a rank) departments on terms of econ history?
  5. are you Patrick? this is not a suggestion, indeed I will follow this post...but am not likely to ask for a defferral
  6. I realize this isn't the very right place where to ask. I took TOEFL ibt in late November but haven't received a hard copy so far. Does it usually comes such a document? Or since it was ibt there is no paper score report?
  7. I am quite new on the forum. It looks (to me) that this year few people are getting in from waitlists. Is it the case?

What would you have done differently? Short run: write better SOPs, by personalizing to each univesity more than I did long run: have more research esperience
  9. Thanks a lot to everyone! Any suggestion in what to bring to the interview?
  10. Hello guys. I got offers (funded) from some departments, I declined some and am soon making my decision. What at this post is about is the after decision stuff...the VISA. I have NEVER been outside Europe and am not familiar with VISA stuff. I read somewhere that they can reject your visa after the interview and if this happens then you will never make it to the US, not even as a tourist. I am getting kid of more anxious about this than I was when waiting for the applications' results >_ 1) is it really so hard to pass the interview? 2) is there anyone who made it? Anyone who failed (and then what did she do)? 3) tips for the interview 4) any comments/advices/critiques 5) need for some encouraging words
  11. Thanks but I have other offers so it doesn't hurt much (at this time)
  12. Received the email 4 hrs ago. Surprise surprise: rejected:cold:
  13. Me! I emailed them 10 days ago. "Decisions to be made by 15" kind of useless reply from them
  14. Is there any past record about people who had such experience? Were they actually released by the 1st uni? If not, what was the attitude towards then when they began the program at 1st uni? if yes, has it been difficult to ask for the release? Did the departments released "easily" those students?
  15. I actually was informed that I won this scholarship (it covers tuition and insurance only). I was also told from UPenn that I am midway in the waitlist. Do you all suggest me to inform them about the award? (There is a shortside of the award: after completion of degree I will be forbidden, for 2 years, to take job positions in the Us, not even research or postdoctoral are allowed) (I have broad interests)
