  1. Guys I am accepting my funded offer at Houston. I was offered the same yesterday and was told to make a decision in a day. My 4 other results were pending. I contacted all these universities, I was in waiting at SMU and UC Riverside. I will be rejecting both these offers incase I get them. Good luck to all those waiting at these places! Thank you to everybody on the thread who gave their invaluable inputs and helped me make this decision. Also, my sincere apologies for creating such a mess on the forum in the past few days. :( Haha! Thank you once again! :) Anybody finally attending Houston, please get in touch and PM me for sure! :) Good luck to all you guys, god bless!
  2. Yes, I read that. Any other input would you like to give? Anyway, thank you so much for all the help today! :) If anybody else has any input/suggestion for me on Houston vs SMU vs UC Riverside, please share guys.
  3. That is such a detailed reply dear. Thank you so much! :) But I think I am still unsure, because I am also high up in the waiting list at UC Riverside. It appears that Houston is way better at Macro than UC Riverside, but UC Riverside appears to have better placements. Location wise also UC Riverside is better, I also have relatives there. I had striked off UCR earlier, but I do want you to consider it. Please help choose one between UC Riverside and Houston. In macroecon I am interested in Monetary/Growth.
  4. Can anyone help me choose between Houston vs SMU vs Delaware. My research area interest is Theoretical Macroeconomics. Placements would be another important criterion. Please help, I really need help. It is very urgent. Thank you.
  5. Guys, can you please help me choose one of these? i need to make a decision in a day.
  6. Thank you so much for that! I see UCR has better placements, especially outside the academia. Am I correct in making that observation and is that because of location? Can someone help? Please help me compare both academia and non- academia placements.
  7. I need to make a choice between University of Houston and University of California Riverside for PhD Economics. Research area wise i am interested in Macroeconomics/Growth Theory, especially theoretical Macroeconomics. I want the course to be more Math oriented. Another important criterion for me would be placement prospects post graduation, including outside the academia. I am an international candidate, so any kind of inputs would be really helpful. Please advise.
  8. Any news for Houston waitlisted for funding candidates? Did they give any last date for acceptance of funded offers they have sent out so far? Also for WUSTL, will they be sending out any further offers/waitlists?
  9. Anyone knows what is the class size at University of Houston and generally how many admits do they send out? My application has been accepted at Houston but I have not received any funding so far. Apparently I am not in the first list for funding, they have sent me a mail saying that there is a good chance that funding positions might become available in the coming time. Should I remain hopeful? will I be able to convert funding eventually? How long will I have to wait? Need help on this.
  10. Has anyone received rejection mails from the following universities: 1. Penn State 2. Virginia 3. Washington St Louis 4. Arizona State 5. Vanderbilt 6. Cornell Does no reply from the above universities imply a rejection?
  11. How are the macroeconomics( theoretical macro) & growth theory departments at Pennsylvania state and Rutgers University? Please help. If any other universities specifically good in these particular areas come to your mind (not in top 25) and they have their deadlines still left, please let me know.
  12. Well my supervisor is a PHD, he is also a Grad school professor. But he is a very young professor, mine is the first batch he has supervised. Ok let me give you guys more details, help me choose 3 of these professors: 1. Very senior PHD Economics professor, teaching growth theory and macroecon, my research proposal is in growth theory and macroecon. 2. Very senior PHD Economics professor, teaching Game theory and Economic Methods. 3. My Mphil dissertation supervisor who is also a PHD, but he is a very young professor, infact mine is the first batch he supervised. Whatever he writes for my research potential will be more convincing. 4. One of my BA Math profs. Not a PHD but since I am from the best Math undergrad school in my country, she is immensely popular outside ( not just for the academia reason ). I also want to highlight in my SOP some important math papers that I have done in my undergrad. And I am sure she will write a very good SOP for me. Please please advise soon. Also does getting LORs from very senior professors help a lot?
  13. I do have a similar case. Actually i have a bachelors degree in Math. So one LOR from my math prof(non PHD), one from my supervisor, and 2 from my grad school profs. Maybe I would have to drop one of my grad school professors..
