Hi I am seeking a Master in Applied Economics. As of now I don’t want to pursue a PhD, but go immediately into a business or banking position.
I am interested in international finance, monetary theory, data analysis and banking. I really want to attend a program that develops analytic skills rather than only focusing on theory.
I have been admitted and I am deciding between University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC), and Texas A&M, both for Applied Economics.
Texas A&M program is very focused on Financial Economics and Econometrics, while UCSC is more well-rounded (I think).
I am kind of leaning towards UCSC, but Texas A&M outranks UCSC in many areas and I believe it is known as a better program. However, I am also worried about pigeonholing myself in finance by choosing Texas A&M.
Furthermore, Texas A&M cost $20,000, while UCSC costs $31,000.
I know this forum is for PhD programs, but if anyone could share their opinions of these schools, I’d greatly appreciate it.
