  1. Yes, my thought process is that if I dont get into the schools I would like with some sort of funding then I'll take another year of undergrad and load up on some math courses. (especially real analysis)
  2. Non-PhD granting undergrad GRE: 159 Verbal, 162 Quant, 4.0 writing GPA: 3.7 Econ courses: principles of micro A, principles of macro B, intermediate micro A, intermediate macro A, natural resource A, currently taking sports economics and econometrics will take game theory and international economics in the spring Math courses: calc 1 and 2 A, intro to statistics A, Business statistics A, currently taking calc 3 and linear algebra, and will take diff eq in the spring Along with these courses I am completing my honors thesis this semester working with several faculty members I am also a tutor for the school in calculus 1 and principles of macro economics. My recommendations should be strong coming from the faculty I am tutoring classes for and working on my thesis together. I know I probably don't have a chance with the top programs, but any advice for schools that I may be accepted into vs schools that I may be accepted into with funding would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Thank you for the honest response. I wish I had decided to do this earlier and would have started off with the dual major, however this was obviously not the case. If I sent out a round of applications and get rejected, does it hurt my chance the next year to apply to those same schools? I do agree that it would be very beneficial to stay an extra semester for more math courses; if it comes down to it I'll go that route considering its paying for 3 months of college that could change the rest of my life.
  4. Yeah the previous post is actually what prompted me to post mine. Previous applicants have gone to george washington and rhode island, but I'm hoping to go a a little bit higher than that. Would you say that there is a ceiling due to an unknown university? Also I do not think I will be able to fit it in more math courses sadly, and thats my biggest concern
  5. Here is an interesting article by the nytimes and a Harvard professors thoughts on the subject (you'll see he feels the opposite is true, but that could very well just be because it is Harvard) forgive me if there is a better way to format, I just signed up: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/12/upshot/why-a-harvard-professor-has-mixed-feelings-when-students-take-jobs-in-finance.html?abt=0002&abg=1
  6. Type of Undergrad: Unknown U.S. University non PhD granting institution Major: B.A. Economics, and Minor in Mathematics GPA: Cumulative 3.68, Econ 3.94, Math 4.0 Relevant honors: In Honors College for university Math Classes: Intro to Calc A, Stats A, Business Stat A, Calc 2 A, Will take calc 3 and linear algebra in the fall, DiffEQ in spring Econ Classes: Intermediate Micro A, Intermediate Macro B, Macro/Micro Theory A, Natural resource Econ A, Economic Freedom A, Will take sports econ and econometrics in fall, self directed study and game theory in spring Recommendations: I will be getting three very strong recommendations which I think is my strongest point. I have been an SI for two professors, which is like an undergrad TA, of those two 1 is a math professor from a top 10 university and the other is an econ professor from a top 40. My last recommendation comes from a professor who brought up getting a PhD to me first which kinda gave me the confidence to really pursue it, and he is from a top 70 program. Teaching Experience: Undergrad supplemental instructor (paid by university to lead study sessions and reteach material for students outside of class) for Macro Principles and Calc 1 Research: I will begin my honors thesis in the fall which constitutes a team of two other professors and will take until spring to complete. GRE: will take at end of summer but hoping to get 165 on quant Concerns: Graduating from an unknown university, not enough math grades on transcript for fall applications. Target Schools: I'm hoping to go to schools ranked 30-50
