  1. I understand! I really appreciate it! I've been trying to get a feel for phd programs and since I'm in a summer program I've been given a lot of information and I'm trying to get as many perspectives as possible!
  2. I'm also planning on writing a thesis in philosophy (analyitical) through my department. I didn't think an admissions committee would care if I write a thesis on philosophy of mind, but would it and the rest of my philosophy courses (4.0) serve as a signal that I can handle deductive/ analytical reasoning and proofs?
  3. Thanks for the reply! Im finishing the program now. I know they put a lot of emphasis on helping us through admissions and grad school, but I wasn't sure how much weight this program carries with an admissions faculty.
  4. Hey thanks for your answer! My letters of rec will come from a well established and well connected professor who knows me well and then professors I've had that Im relatively close to. That's a lot of what I was afraid of. I know the theory side attracts a lot of math people. I love proof based math classes but I hate computational ones (ie cal 3). Thanks for the advice about theory at lower ranked programs. I'll have to look into what I can do to get into a program where I can study theory or decide whether or not I could be happy doing applied theory. Thanks again!
  5. Thanks for the feedback everyone! It's really useful information.

Type of Undergrad: southern state school Undergrad GPA: 3.8/4.0 major in philosophy and economics (3.7), minors math (3.4) and spanish Type of Grad: N/A GRE: taking in august Math Courses: calc 1-3 (A,B,C respectively), discrete math (A+) , linear algebra (A), real analysis (A) Econ Courses: All As, one or two Bs. intro/intermediate micro & macros, game theory, public finance, political economy of terrorism, labor, summer program- math econ, econometrics, adv micro theory Other Courses: Research Experience: summer research program with AEA, research award at schools research conference in unrelated field, writing a paper for publication with a professor in philosophy Teaching Experience: teaching assistant deductive logic, math tutor Research Interests: microeconomic theory, game theory, poverty & income inequality (dislike econometrics and applied) I'd like to know if I have a shot at a school in the top 30 & any advice on programs that are within my reach and have a strong program for micro theory. Thank you!
