  1. I'm interested in studying theory but I'm not sure that I have enough of a math background. I've taken the basic course sequence, algebra, and analysis. Beyond the standard Simon and Blume, are there any books or topics I should study over the summer? Also, is there any recent theory research which is accessible to an undergrad so I can get a better view of the field?
  2. Thanks Food4Thought! I'm really looking for more schools to apply to in the 10-25 range. I'm still kind of on a rough list of schools so I'm trying to figure out which ones to cut and which to add.
  3. Type of Undergrad: USNEWS Top 10 Liberal Arts Undergrad GPA: 3.92 Type of Grad: N/A Grad GPA: N/A GRE: V165 Q168 AW5 Math Courses: Calc1,2(High School), Calc 3(A), Linear(A), Differential Equations(A), Discrete Math (A), Modern Algebra 1 and 2 (A,A), Topology(A), Real Analysis(Taking Now), Probability (Taking Now) Econ Courses: Intro(A), Stats(A), Intermediate Micro/Macro (A,A), Econometrics (A), Economic Development (A), Behavioral (A), Industrial Organization (A), Game Theory (Taking Now) Other Courses: Liberal Arts stuff Letters of Recommendation: 1. Econometrics Professor. PhD Princeton. Should be very good. 2. Professor I've worked with as a research assistant. PhD Penn. Will be very good. 3. Macro Professor. PhD UVA. Will be great. Also my advisor. Will be very good. Research Experience: REU in applied math. Research assistant for labor econ professor. Most of my work has involved literature review and modeling. Teaching Experience: Tutor in Economics and Statistics. Research Interests: Development or Applied Micro SOP: Haven't started. Hopefully will be good. Concerns: Coming from a Liberal Arts College and professors having more of a focus on teaching than research. Applying To: Harvard, Yale, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, UVA, UNC, Texas, Boston, others? I feel like my applications are very top heavy but I don't know what other schools to include. I do care about research but my goal is to teach at a top liberal arts college so I'm really concerned about finding a school with good placement for that. Suggestions? Also, should I take a gap year and find an RA position before applying?
