  1. Hi Though late, here are my notes.. with help of these I scored 750 (Q 50, V 41). Dont take them for granted just reference some of items are self deducted henece can be incorrect.. Kautilya. Math.doc SentenceCorrection1.doc SentenceCorrection2.doc
  2. Yah arjman, I also got similar question as 2nd one and probably i answered it correctly.. you have to divide by !(no of groups).. as I also got 50... this is too much of bad luck for you.. as I dont remember seeing wrong answers from you on quant. Junta.. this is common question hence memorise this pattern.
  3. Hi I am thinking of taking TOFEL in very near future say 15-30 days from now. Though I know about its format. I am looking for advice on material. 1. Barron's TOEFL Guide. (Is it complete, I mean are questions and explanations up to the standard of real test) 2. ETS material. (Does it have grammar also, i mean does it have all rules tested on grammar in TOEFL). Other then structure, other sections are ok and dont require as much formal prepration. Just practice should be sufficient. Please also post other material or if there are softwares already uploaded (their links).
  4. http://www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT/LimitedSummerTesting/LimitedSummerTest_related/FreeGMATPrepTestPreparationSoftware.htm this is the link for gmat prep. it is new powerprep... official tests. Check the site wikigrammar.com for moew info;
  5. Ok I did not mention for Quant prepration: here it is. I was always around 49-50 may be because of engineering . background but still I used to make silly mistakes.. my PR (Princeton scores are not correct because sorftware was buggy and it counted right questions also as incorrect) 1. from Power prep or OG go over the match concepts, ETS would not ask you anything which require more math fundaes then what they have give as theory. Having said that Math is about ideas obviously questions require tricks and not all tricks are taught in books. follow is the advice for that: Focus on specific topics: 1. Number properties: Gmat plays a lot with possibility of negative/postive/between 0 and 1/between 0 and -1. Best way is draw the number line and then see your solution is consistent over it. 2. Arithemetic: like averages/median etc.. check how things can go vary.. 3. Perm/Quant: Search this forums problem solving questions with Permutation/probability that is far more then what would come on GMAT. 4. Others: are mostly farmula based. or simple deductions in geometry. After doing some ground work. you have following tests to actually give close to real gmat feeling. OG questions specially last one are at par with GMAT. And GMAT prep is little bit more.. or at same level with actual GMAT quant. 1. Powerprep 2 sets 2. GMAT prep 2 sets 3. If you retake GMAT prep tests in quant section it gives around 80-90% new questions hence retake untill you wish. KinderGardin, if you were doing good on OG CR then it must just some little off to get low on power prep. Do questions from GMAT-LSAT-CR it has some tests for GMAT. Do them in timed condition try to achieve 1.3-1.5 min... remember dont just guess because time is passiing.. spend more time if you are not able to understand the question. but after exam check where you spend more time.. there is excel to time your self.. i can upload if you guys dont have that... while reviewing the questions where you spend more then 1.3 min treat them as second to what you got as wrong.
  6. :) To begin with, Thanks to this forum, which was backbone in my prepration. I thought to refrain from naming some individuals here who have really contributed to my learning as I may miss some. Still I can resist naming people such as Erin and 800Bob (Teachers hence gods:tup:). Now below is my breif statstics to help future test takers. Test Total Score Verbal Quant ETS-Paper-25 650 800Score-2 (V) 38 58 PowerPrep 1 710 38 49 PR1 710 42 46 KP1 600 28 48 KP-Dig 660 39 44 PR2 680 40 44 KP2 610 30 50 GMAT Prep1 720 38 50 800Score-3 (V) 41 GMAT Prep2 760 42 50 Repeat GMAT Prep1 750 40 50 Repeat GMAT Prep2 770 44 51 PowerPrep-2 790 48 51 Actual GMAT 750 41 50 Prepration Material Used: (In descending order of usefullness) 1. Official Guide 10th Edition: 2. 1000SC, GMAT Plus material (these two material have same questions, I used gmat plus but because I came to know late about 1000 SC. I noticed that gmat plus has lot of typos and wrong answer choices hence use 1000 SC. Moreover questions are same ETS old questions and best quality questions compared with any other resources such as Kaplan, Princeton.) 3. GMAT LSAT material for CR: (again this material has old ETS CRs which are not overlapping with Official guide, it has more then 20 CR tests and are sufficient to prepare for GMAT level CRs.) 4. 1000 RC ( I am not sure but one which I downloaded had 63 passages and again these are old ETS RCs hence of similar quality) Explanations for alomost all questions from source no 2 and 3 can be found at this forum. Use its search feature and that is why I should say this forum is complementary to OG in terms of explanations and learning. I did not look for explanations for RCs although I was not very strong in RC but I did not find it too useful. kaplan 800, Kaplan Book/CD, Prienceton: (if you have time spend some time with it but I found it not so much usefull because its explanations are not at par with OG, still if you need more questions with explanations after OG use this.) Test Prepration Tips: I will try to keep it brief and not mention which have been alredy discussed by others. I can only tell what I did. 1. After getting some sense from Kaplan/ princeton, I started with OG and do it slowly. 2. Practice is the key and observe patterns in sentence correction, critical reasoning by yourself hence make your own notes. And each time you do new questions try to see whether your notes have solution for them or not. 3. I started with low GMAT score in the begining (first mock test I gave long back last year, I got 550.) hence practice is the key and more then this try to practice few questions say 20 from each section every day and spend more time on analyzing those questions even if you got them right make sure that you understood all possible mistakes in those questions. Use this forum for explanations. 4. Move with more no of questions in the end of your preprations and pratice in timed condition. Aim for folowing (1.5 min per CR question, 1.25 min per SC question, and 8-10 min for RC) if you can achieve this with around 80% success rate then you are above 40. :)... just my 2 cents.
  7. Set S consistes of 5 consecutive integers, Set T consists of 7 consecutive integers. is the Median of S equals to the median of T? 1) Median of S = 0 2) Sum of numbers in S = Sum of numbers in T
  8. Can someone please explain if both of these are correct or some modifications are required. Young people have less commitment to work than their parents and grandparents had. Managers have less commitment to work than their employees.
  9. thanks ramzy in your example: the pattern of changes is the subject which is certainly singular. and restrictive that clause after the pattern of changes "that" . here "that" refers to changes but it could also refer to pattern depending upon what is tried to be said. e.g. the pattern of changes that has been infered by researcher indicates...... So basically it is mainly for emphasis purpose we need to decide whether "that/wchich" refers to noun1 or noun2
  10. http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12351 see the above post for "the leader of terrorists who were"
  11. Can someone please help me understand this. What is the rule governing: Noun1 + of + noun2 + [relative pronoun] + verb (should it refer to noun2 or noun1) The leader of the terrorists who were/was The use of packaging materials that are/is The feature of analog recording systems that is/are The chilling effect of terrorist activity that is [what does that refer to effect or activity] Noun1 + in + noun2 + [relative pronoun] + verb (should it refer to noun2 or noun1) I have exam in next three days hence any help would be great.
  12. Here have had => have as Auxilary and had as past form of a verb == have granted.
  13. Summet. Here it is auxilary which we need to repeat (dont you think) say Ten states had granted right to woment compared with only one in east had you think that we can leave had. I think no we need to repeat auxilary. Even if only one in east is sufficient to identify that we are comparing states, not the woment to states.
  14. what explanation does kaplan give for D being incorrect. I dont think it is just issue of :those: being ambiguous.
  15. Ohh I am so sorry.. You can certainly increase your quant score with little bit of practice.
  16. Hey :) are you kidding... what are expecting from 51 in Q ... were you expecting 60. I think 51 is near max.. or did you post your score incorrectly ( sorry if I offended you).
  17. the Decisons of John Marshall have had a greater influence then any chief justice in history. b) historically then any chief justice in history. c) then have those of any chief justice in history. d) then those of any other chief justice in history have. e) then those of any other chief justice in history.
  18. D it is. A and B out as it has to be exhibit preference for is correct Idiom: and we need expanded to include.
  19. My vote is also for C: Can some one please explain why we can not ellipse "it did" and choose A. "in 1975" sufficient to be parallel with "now". Only reason I can think of is because tense is different. e.g. Building new house costs more now then it did in 1980. Building new house in US costs more now then [it does] in England. (we can ellipse it does here) please correct my understanding.. hoping to get some expert advice. My exam is on coming weekend.
  20. Hey, It should be E All three are possible. we have to satisfy: x>y^2>z^4 I. x>y>z: x=30,y=5,z=2 II.z>y>x: x=0.3,y=0.4,z=0.5 => y^2 = 0.16, z^4=0.0625 III.x>z>y: x=30,y=0.4,z=0.5 => y^2 = 0.16, z^4=0.0625
  21. D Series: 1/2 -1/4 +1/8..... > (1/2-1/4).. 5 such terms => >1/4 and
  22. E is the answer, I checked it in Source :GMAT PLus material. And E maintains the parallelism after colon: with A, B, C and D
  23. 1) is obviously insuff 2) The logic is that sqrt(9) = 3; if x^2 = 9 then X could be +3 or -3 what I am trying to say is that this is what I have observed in GMAT LAND. Arjmen, If you have some idea please confirm. Ok now back to question. 2nd Stem => X Hence B.
  24. C: Combinging these two gives 1) x > z+y 2) X^2 = (z+y)(z-y) => As X is always positive and moreover X^2 will always be positive. Either Z+y and Z-y are both positive or both negative but Z and Y are also positive integer which means Z+y is positive => Z-y is also positive => X
