  1. You really should contact the department first. I think you get a good package and will be able to support your most expenses at the UC Davis. Furthermore, you can certainly save some money by applying family housing ( usually the cheapest option and always provide priority to graduate students); also, you can make some extra money by doing private tutors and many others. Please think through it and DO NOT easily turn down the offer.
  2. Thanks for sharing with me and good luck to your applications!
  3. Thanks for letting me know! I only have one offer(PhD) so far and probably will hear back from a few more schools in two weeks. Currently I also have a few master offers such as Duke, Madison, and Cambridge(Mphil), but I tend to go to the UCSB directly since I can save some times. I ask some of my professors' opinion and they suggest me to go to the UCSB even without the first year funding instead of going to any of these masters. So I want to ask if any student have the same situation like me last year and indeed get funding in the second year. I only politely responded to their coordinator that I got the message about no funding but I have not email them at all. Should I send an email to their coordinator, the DGS professor, or just waiting? I have no idea what to do.
  4. Dear all, I got accepted from the UCSB a month ago. Two week ago I received an letter from their department and said that I am less likely get funding in the first two years of graduate study. Any one has similar circumstances? Would that change a little bit(ie., limited funding) if I wait until April ? Or, If I accept it and fund myself for a whole year, would they provide assistant ship to those students who are un-funding in the first year? Any suggestion or insights will be really appreciate it !
