PROFILE:
Type of Undergrad: Joint Honours Econ/Math , McGill ( Canada )

Type of Grad: Starting M.A Math this year (Same University)
Grad GPA: TBD
GRE: TBD
Math Courses(All Honours/Graduate) : Analysis I/II/III/IV , Abstract Algebra I/II , ODE , Numerical Analysis , Nonlinear Dynamics & Chaos , Math Stats I/II , Advanced Probability (Measure) , Generalized Linear Models
Econ Courses(Honours):Micro I/II/III , Macro I/II/III , Econometrics I/II , Econ Stats I/II , a few other electives
Other Courses: Calc II/III/IV sequence and a few finance/accounting electives.
Grad Courses taking in MA this year : Functional Analysis , Algebraic Topology , Higher Algebra I , PDE's , Time Series , Differential Geometry , Machine Learning , General Relativity
Letters of Recommendation: Reasonably well known econometrician in the department. My strongest letters would however likely come from my pure math references.
Research Experience: Nothing in econ although I do have some decent research experience in analysis and statistics that will be mentioned in references I suppose. Planning to continue my research during MA.
Teaching Experience: Nothing yet.
Research Interests: Theory , possibly econometrics but really open to any area.
SOP: Not sure yet.
Other: Several awards throughout undergrad. I also worked throughout my undergrad but in stuff not related to econ/math so dont think it's relevant. Passed 3 actuarial exams.
Concerns:
1. No real econ research experience.
2. Interests are only in theory , I dont particularly like anything applied.
3. Dual Applying to pure math departments at some universities aswell ( not sure if this works against me or not ).
My guess is that I'm a reasonable candidate for the 10-20 range and a reach for the Top 10. Interests only in theory would possibly disqualify me immediately from a few places.
I might try to get some research experience and reapply again next year if it doesn't work out this year I suppose.
I could use some help on which schools I might stand a good chance of getting into. My International status likely works against me in the very top schools so I might be pushing my luck trying there.
Thanks for the help !
