  1. Does anyone know what happens if a person's visa gets rejected? Is their admission cancelled or do they get a deferral? Also, what are the things that could lead to a visa rejection?
  2. I personally felt that the preparation of GMAT nudged me towards a more reasoning based approach towards life. I am a copywriter by trade and hence am primarily involved dealing in superlatives and emotions, and the practice for the GMAT helped me structure my SOP better and in general look at texts more critically. A friend of mine consistently outscored me in the mock exams, however, his score was a good 90 points below mine and I agree that the GMAT score may reflect a candidates ability to take the test.
  3. This is just crazy. No wonder, the people on waitlists are kept waiting.
  4. Hi All, Is there a difference between the offer by the business school and the graduate school? Also, if the business school sends its recommendation, is it possible that the graduate school may not extend the offer?

  7. Hi, Thanks for your reply. A third person's view really helps puts things into perspective. Just one last thing: Do these Coursera/edX and other MOOC certificates hold any value? The deadlines for enrolling in most universities in my area are over and as you had mentioned I should get some econ/stat courses, I was wondering if I could use the the verified certificates from these places. Thanks again.
  8. Hi, I was hoping that you could give an idea of what my chances are in getting in to the top 20 schools. Here are my profile stats: 1. GMAT: 780 2. Undergraduate School Bachelor of Technology (Electrical Engineering) GPA: 2.91 School: MANIT, Bhopal (Amongst the top 30 in India for Engineering) 3. Graduate School PG Diploma in Management (Communications) GPA: 2.91 (In the top 15% in my class) School: Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (Amongst the top 20 in India for Business Studies) 4. Research Experience: Nothing formal only the dissertation during my PG. 5. Teaching Experience: Close to 1 year. 6. Work Experience: Approx. 5 years. I am a copywriter in an advertising agency. So the work generally involves a lot of research on consumers. But it is all secondary research. 7. Concentration Applying to: Marketing (I want my research area to be in domain of marketing analytics. I'm planning to look for the influence of digital marketing in the rural market of India.) 8. Number of Programs planned to apply to : around 5 to 6 9. Dream Schools: Booth, Sloan and Kellogg Additional certificates: Coursera Data Science Specialization Edx Marketing Analytics X-Series Some additional info: My work primarily deals with developing new markets in the rural areas of India, especially creating demand for products. I was wondering if this would be of any help in application process? My questions: 1. What are my chances of getting into the top 20 schools? 2. Should I talk about my area of interest (Indian rural market) in my application essays? 3. Are there any steps that I can take to offset the impact of my low GPA? 4. Does being a writer help in the selection process? Thanks.
