Time necessary RA-ing to receive strong rec letter
pp2568 replied to lakeside972's topic in PhD in Economics
I think it depends on the schools you're applying to. For the top10-15, I am not sure if a letter from 6 months of RA-ing (when generally RA's only begin to be productive after 9-12months) will be strong enough. If it's for lower ranked programs, I think you'd be fine. -
NSF-GRFP winners are out! https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/grfp/AwardeeList.do?method=loadAwardeeList

+1 to a US RA getting wrecked this application cycle :|

Apparently there are some Columbia admits trickling in this morning. Fingers crossed!
-
Can you give some more info?
-
Congrats!!
-
hehe fair! Hopefully tomorrow brings acceptances to the both of us :)
-
What a slow day for results :(
-
Does anyone have an idea of when Columbia will release its decisions? Last year they released on the 19th but I dont think theyve sent anything out yet.
-
I think there are still a bunch of Michigan admits coming out. GC only has 6 but had like 20+ last year. Plus last year the acceptances were spread over a few days, so hold tight!

There are some Princeton acceptances on GC-- can anyone confirm they are real?
-
I hope so. I thought a bunch would come out today but it's been slow thus far.

I've been on the hiring side for some JPAL positions so I can speak a bit to this. Yes, we review applications even if recommendations haven't been submitted. We may even interview you without those letters, but at some point we will ask for them or to speak with someone you worked for. In terms of the recruitment drive going on, I don't expect many JPAL people to reach out right now. A lot of time, PI's will post for positions that will start sometime in 2017, so they get a larger pool of applicants. I'd except those to start doing interviews/etc beginning in January or February. But there may be some projects looking for people to join right away, so those may be reaching out.
