  1. Disney just released the title for the Star Wars Episode 8 (The Last Jedi). I am super excited. :) So we have The Big Bang Theory fans here. That's nice. I am rewatching The Big Bang Theory episodes; I regularly do so. Also, we have The Walking Dead initiator here. If you wish to have a spoiler free review of The Walking Dead in case you get stuck at any particular season/episode, do let me know. I want to watch "The OA."
  2. Sorry for late reply. I was offline for a couple of days. Chess sounds awesome, If you wish we can play on chess.com ?
  3. I also usually do not have Plan B's in my life, although they might be recommended, so I should watch the movie Pelham 123 too. I have heard too many good things about Seinfield, and I had seen some of its clips on YouTube, but I have kept it in bucket list along with Friends, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Prison Break and so on. So will watch it for sure, but some time in future. :)
  4. I just checked "Freaks and Geeks" on IMDB, it seems nice. I will also try to watch it. :) I am currently watching 1) The Big Bang Theory 2) The Walking Dead 3) The Flash 4) Legends of Tomorrow 5) Supergirl 6) How to get away with Murder 7) Elementary. All these were on hiatus for some time, but in the following week all except The Walking Dead will return, so I will be able to pass some time with them. I was watching 1) Pitch 2) Designated Survivor 3) The Last Man on Earth. I might start to watch them again. Also, I just finished watching 1) Stranger Things 2) Westworld 3) Sherlock 4) Secrets and Lies 5) Scream Queens 6) American Horror Story. I loved all of them. Thus I wish to involve my thoughts in all these. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I agree with the title "Freaks and Geeks" making a good sense here. :)
  5. Every year there is a 2017 Ph.D. Business Administration Sweat Thread in this forum, wherein everyone sweats about interview invites, no interview invites, acceptances, waitlist, rejections and so on. However, in each and every post it is imminent that passing time is the most difficult thing for all of us. Thus I thought of creating this thread - 2017 Ph.D. Unsweat thread. A thread to talk anything else from the stressful admission talks. Let us unsweat all the tension that we have here, let us discuss only fun stuff here, to pass the time qualitatively instead of just killing time. No talk of admissions here, no discussion of interviews here, just standard unsweating. Let us talk about - What tv series are we watching currently? What movies did we watch recently or plan to watch soon? What books are we reading? What will happen during this year's Superbowl? All-Stars game? Who will win the National League? American League? Other region sports? EPL? La Liga? Let us kill time here. Let us invite each other for a chess game here. (Btw I love chess) Or let us play online cards somewhere - Poker (with no money involved) (just for fun), Hearts, Spades, and so on. Let us play 21 questions (kids game, but nice to pass some time). In synopsis let us hangout here, all the Ph.D. aspirants. We can continue more serious talks in the respective threads, but let us chillax a bit too. PS - Admins, If I am wrong in creating this thread, please let me know. However I have seen at least one thread dedicated to stress out by normal talks in many undergrad and grad forums, so decided to create this. Anyway, if I am wrong please let me know, apologies in advance.
  6. From what I know from various activities (going through the official websites, talking to people who were already admitted to some program, and so on.) I can say for sure that if the deadline of a particular school is in December or January. It takes at least these two months (Dec and Jan) just to sort out the application, match the official score reports, unofficial/official transcripts and other stuff to our application. The admission committee meets itself for the first time and sees any of the application for the first time in January end or February starting at the earliest. Some of the posts in Gradcafe or elsewhere might be genuine, but from my experience I have seen people bluffing about stuff, just to get additional online attention. Thus it would be better to wait for official confirmations from the schools and not panic because someone posted that they got an interview invite from a particular school, or they heard that they got someone else getting an interview. For all, I know that unless I hear from the school itself that they are interviewing folks, I am not going to believe it. I have seen people creating false GMAT scorecards and sharing online, just for getting a kick. Then just writing about interviews is not a big deal. I am not saying that everyone or majority of us lies, but such bluffing is not an uncommon phenomenon. Also, some initial interviews are even to clear somethings up. If our profile is unambiguous (either good or bad), then they might not think it to be urgent to ring us up. However, if our profile has some red herrings, then they would like to clear them up, such as a gap in education or work experience unaccounted for in the application. All these are just my views on the application process, I might be wrong, but I am done with the panic creation by writing that ABC or XYZ got an interview for DEF college, so we are out and so on. Although this is a sweat thread, we can help each other out for supporting each other, irrespective of whether we are a domestic or an international applicant, by boosting moral of each other and sharing stuff from past trends from official sources. No need to look even beyond this website, just check the 2016 Ph.D. sweat thread here itself, initially people were just as panicky as we are, but then they were getting interviews and admitted even after the April 15 deadline, and this is not uncommon for any Ph.D. to say. Apologies for such a long and emotionally intense post, but I am new to this portal, and I thought like to share this. I might be wrong, but this is what I feel, and I shared it with you, as we all are going through the same turmoil.
  7. I had the same doubt as OP. However, now I can interpret from the replies on this thread that the interviews usually do happen for Ph.D. admissions. Anyway, I had seen on websites of some of the schools that they do not often conduct interviews, and they give direct admissions. Thus anyone can please share light on this information written on these websites? PS - There are over 100 top schools in the USA itself, so I am saying this about some selective schools only. Thus if you too have seen as such information on websites of some schools, please do share some insights.
  8. Firstly, thanks for this forum. It is informative and helpful. It is my first day on this forum, and so my first post. Now I haven't heard from Harvard Business School and Stanford GSB yet. I am a Ph.D. Business Administration applicant, as everyone else here. So is it recommended to contact them through email, or is better to wait in silence?
