Comments: Choosing UNC! Have an MA in International Econ from a reputed US university, another math-heavy MS in Econ from home country and BS in Finance and Econ from home country (both relatively unknown in USA). Near-perfect GRE quant and two years RA experience in a prestigious US institution. Didnt realize I was overestimating myself when I applied. Still I feel lucky given that I know many international students with similar RA experience not managing to hit any top 30-35 ranked school. I guess the european master's or phd-level micro courses would have helped.
