  1. Hi! to confused_sakib you should send copies of all score cards you have together with other documents (these copies are for review purposes). don't send your original score cards, they are for you:) and be sure to send official score reports through ETS (to the graduate office, department or whatever is stated at a web site) good luck!!!
  2. admission committes work differently in different universities some review your materials on first-come first-served basis, others will wait for the deadline (+ may be a week or two). check policy at a web site the only important thing is not to be too late with the scores if you take AGRE in December 11, add 6-7 weeks for scores to get to Univ, and you will get something in February. Some universities have their decision made by mid or end of Feb. So you get the picture. if deadline is on Dec 1 or Dec 15, it's reasonable to take GRE in November. also yes, you can apply very early, but in many cases this might not give you a substantial advantage over other applicants. and in no way you should wait for your scores to arive apply as soon as you have all other materials ready. (but i think that your should have your TOEFL and GRE General ready by the time of your application, because in this case you yourself will have clearer picture) >> i've already given GRE and TOEFL and was all set to apply early >> if i apply as early as sept but the dept. has to wait for my grecs score till >> dec won't it hamper my chances? no, it will not reduce your chances. just be on time as i said, that's all that you can do about it. hope it helps good luck!!!
  3. Hi! check this thread for GRE CS practice material http://www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29344
  4. >> Can anyone who already took a real test say if the is the case with the real >> tests too concerning languages/grammar? No. Questions on the real test cover almost all the topics that are specified in the ETS guide according to their percentages. Languages/grammars questions will likely to appear, but they are not prevalent (2-3 questions). >>what study material do you recommend (given my 3-month time constraint) >>for the topics above? Books (maybe too comprehensive?)? Online tutorials >>(maybe too narrow)? Which one is best? books for sure. you know which (if not, see other posts) & also do a lot of practice

  8. Hi! the real exam is not that difficult in reality, quantative section on the real GRE test is similar to that of GRE POWERPREP from ETS it's important to stabilize your scores on all these tests at your desired level (i mean, if you want say 790 then you should almost always score 790 and above at these tests) if you did all these: Math Preview from ETS Kaplan Barrons Princeton Cracking GRE & after that you've done this: GRE POWERPREP (in my experience, scores you get on this test give you a very good estimate of your scores on the real exam) and you get score you want then i think you are ready for real GRE Hope it helps. good luck!!!
  9. 10. (1).how much influence does it have if we have a good AGRE say 850+ in the application process even though we do not have good acedemics in under graduation 850+ / > 90% percentile can make you stand out from crowd it's also important with such a good scores to have 800 (or at least 790) in GRE Quant.... good GPA is important but as you know not only GPA matters strengthes in some areas can compensate weaknesses in other areas (2).roughly how much time is recquired to study for the AGRE CS. it depends on where you are (how good you are in CS) you will need 1-2 weeks to study ETS GRE CS Practice books (if you study for 1 or 2 weeks before GRE CS, your scores won't improve greatly; it's important to do several tests from ETS and see how good you are; these scores will give you pretty good estimate of what will be your scores on the real exam) 1-2 months to go over all the topics (mean time, if you have general but not excellent knowledge) 3-4 months for thorough preparation (to make sure that you know everything) 6 months - 1 year if you are not in CS in your case, if you aim at >90 percentile you will need at least 1-2 months. Also, at first, do tests from ETS, if you will get ~60 correct answers then you have good chances to get something in the upper 10% score range. (4). i would like to know if they are any solutions manual(the so called instructor's manual) availabile with u all for all of those books.i would be very pleased to have them. Solutions for Introduction to algorithms second edition (Cormen) Solutions for Introduction to Automata Theory, Languages, and Computation (Aho) if you need them tell me (5).if there any web links about the AGRE CS please tell me about these links. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/grecs/ (file section, and posts) ed2k://|file|GRE%20Subject%20CS%20Practice%20gter.net.rar|13057171|BE18A1167DF524E125C4A75A0B46DB30|h=STMNZBX2HBGKPENYVJG625T74MZX7A4V|/ ed2k://|file|GRE-CS-2001-practice-with-solutions.rar|1089227|C34DA24B29C9DBE70A479E03016C9F51|h=IL2EMZC6DAPQO3VG7T5AN5RFL3W7CIA3|/ hope it helps Good luck!!!

  12. Hi prasanna_gre! you are on time actually, you have much time i don't know what is the best schedule for applying check this one from princeton review http://www.princetonreview.com/grad/apply/articles/process/schedule.asp here is my schedule october - collecting docs (transcripts, recommendations...) end of october - toefl middle of november - gre december - gre subject december - applying end of february-march-april-may - admission decisions it takes one day (24 hours) for the first university to apply online, to carefully bring together all documents into application package and to send it. all next universities take less time, because they all are practically the same:) good luck with your applications!
  13. Hi! the early your scores arrive, the better it's OK to take GRE CS in Dec, if the deadline is in January-February but if deadline is in Dec (Dec 1, Dec 15), you should take exam in Nov and don't forget to inform your department (or office of admissions) that you are going to take GRE CS and tell them the date of your exam. if you don't tell them, they'll not even know that you are going to take GRE CS, and they can reject you on that basis. good luck!!!

  16. general info: SPEAK Test format (12 questions) Three warm-up questions Recommending question Giving directions question (Map reading) Describing question Narrate a story Suggest a solution Persuade someone Advantages and Disadvantages Opinion question (Share an Opinion) Define or Explain question Describe a Graph Analyze a Graph Announcement question (Schedule modifications) Questions 2, 3 and 4 are related to the map. Questions 5-7 are related to the sequence of pictures. The SPEAK Test measures the ability of non-native speakers to communicate orally in English. The test consists of 12 questions, each of which is intended to elicit a particular speech activity from examinees. These speech activities are based on language "functions" such as narrating, apologizing, persuading, recommending, and giving and supporting opinions. Toward Speaking Excellence, 2nd Ed is very helpful for the SPEAK test. There are many examples (questions and real responses with analysis) and several sample tests (for TSE). I take SPEAK in August.

  18. Thank you all for your valuable comments, Actually, I'm interested in AI theory (machine learning, intelligent systems, soft computing, etc.) Anyway, I think that Rutgers PhD program in CS suits me better (in terms of research, location, etc.) So, I'm going to Rutgers. Thank you.
  19. Texas A&M PhD in CS or Rutgers Phd in CS which program to choose (which one is better?) for both there is a full support (TA) thank you
