  1. I think answer is B because it dmonstrates his ability to handle business-relations well, which is what the new council is all about. Just because Bill is the new head doesn't mean that the new council will have the support of the nation's labor leaders. So not A. Question does not indicate that Bill can communite directly with the leaders of the nation's largest labor unions. Therefore, C is incorrect D is irrelevant. E is too extreme
  2. 2 is B because: CONCLUSION: if two works have the same qualities, their worth should be the same CLAIM: 2 visually indistinguishable art works have the same qualities POINT RAISED: 2 visually indistinguiabl art works do NOT have the same qualities because they don't have the same history.
  3. oh, i think i may have misunderstood part 2). is it saying If point A were twice as far from point E, it would be the same distance from point E as point C is from point E at coordinates (0,-2) I thought it was stating If point A were twice as far from point E, it would be the same distance from point E as point C is from point A at coordinates (0,-2)
  4. If, on a coordinate plane, point A has the coordinates (-3,4), how far is point A from point E? 1) Point E is on the y-axis four units from the origin. 2) If point A were twice as far from point E, it would be the same distance from point E as point C is at coordinates (0,-2)
  5. If the unfriendly takeover of Downey industries by Farkow International is allowed, industry analysts generally agree that Farkow will be saddled with so much debt that it will be forced to triple the price of ball bearings, Downey's primary product. Downey maintains the top market position in the manufacture of ball bearings, accounting for nearly two-thirds of all ball bearings produced. The takeover could lead to a crisis for industries that depend on ball bearings, and thus contribute to the weakening of the economy. Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the conclusion aboe? A. Farkow International may face financial ruin if the acquisition of Downey is blocked B. Downey industries has legislative reocurse to delay the takeover, which could alter the amount of debt incurred by Farkow International. C. With the infusion of a relatively minor capital investment, it may be possible for Farkow International to begin producing its own ball bearings, altering Downey's market share significantly. D. The profit margin for ball bearings is considerably less than that for Downey's other products. E. In the event of a takeover of Downey Industries, smaller companies that produce ball bearings will expand to satisfy the market for cheaper ball bearings.
  6. Taxpayer X: We must make a political statement about Congressional campagin reform and pass the campaign bill. Only by changing all the steps of the political process can we hope for meaningful political reform. Taxpayer Y: Our goal should be to get Congress to change the way it works when in session, rather than the way in which members are elected. Only by changing how Congress works will we reform Congress. How do the opinions of taxpayer X and taxpayer Y compare? a. They seek the same end, but differ over the means of achieving it. b. They seek different ends, but suggest the same means of achieving them. c. They seek different ends and different means of achieving them. d. They disagree on whether any member of Congress should attempt to reform Congress. e They disagree over the appropriateness of Congressional reform.
  7. A survey of 1,200 residents of a certain state revealed that 43% found hunting to be morally wrong. Of those same 1,200 respondents, 50% said that they did not hunt. From this information, the surveyors concluded that ___. a. some respondents expressed their moral convictions more strongly than others did b. the people who expressed an objection to hunting did not hunt c. moral objection is not the only reason why people do not hunt d. the people who had hunted before but stopped because of a moral objection outnumbered those who did not hunt but didn't find it morally wrong e. some people hunt even though they are morally opposed to it
  8. The answer is E because it shows that ppl are in fact less interested in politics. Answer A actually strenghtens the argument. If people are contributing less per person, then the only way that total contirbutions increased by 25% is if many more people chose to contribute, thus indicating greater overall interest in politics.
  9. i arrived at the testing center and was told that they had cancelled all afternoon testing due to the impending snowstorm. now, not only will i have gmats hanging over my head for an even longer period, but i will also need to deal with an approaching month-end release for work. additionally, i just looked up the available test dates for the test site, and the earliest one is at 8:30 this coming thursday morning (jan 27), followed by a 12 pm on tuesday (feb 8). there is always the possibility of taking the test in manhattan, but that would mean a longger trek to an unfamiliar center with a different environment. on top of everything, i'm supposed to go recruiting for work this thursday night and friday. discouraged and trying to decide on my plan of action... fighteress
  10. I think the answer is D because it suggests that if genetatic manipulation is used to breed plants, then it would make it very easy to use color to separate weed from crop plants. A: is wrong because a great variation in colors among different weed species would make it difficult for the machine to discern between the weeds and crop plants B: is wrong for same reason as A C: suggests that the machine is using the wrong criteria to distinguish weed from crop plant. it should be using overall size and leaf shape as a factor E: is irrelevant to the argument
  11. oops....sorry about the formatting of the question....here it is again... Records of the first 736 British convicts deported to Australia reveal convictions for crimes against property in all cases and they ranged from highway robbery to forgery. A. convictions for crimes against property in all cases and they ranged B. convictions in all cases were for crimes against property and ranging C. the ranging of convictions for crimes against property in all cases D. that all were convicted of crimes against property ranging E. that all of them had convictions for crimes that were against property; the range was
  12. Records of the first 736 British convicts deported to Australia reveal convictions for crimes against property in all cases and they ranged from highway robbery to forgery. http://kaplan.blackboard.com/images/spacer.gif convictions for crimes against property in all cases and they ranged convictions in all cases were for crimes against property and ranging the ranging of convictions for crimes against property in all cases that all were convicted of crimes against property ranging that all of them had convictions for crimes that were against property; the range was Hi, can someone explain why the answer (D) is correct? It would seem to me that "ranging" is incorrectly modifying property rather than crimes, as should be the case. This leads to my overall problem with SC questions. Many times I will see more than one mistake, but I end up picking the answer that has the less of 2 evils, which is very frustrating. What exactly is the priority list of grammar violations that ETS is using? Fighteress
  13. my guess is B. using 'between' doesn't make sense and neither does 'of it passes'
  14. i was going through my brother's mcat study guides and noticed if you want more resources for practicing RC questions, that's a good place to go. also, i think the lsat also contains a lot of questions similar to CR.
