  1. I am on a valid H1 and currently working in US (for past 3 years). I have been accepted in US business school and need to change the visa status to F1 before I join the school. I want to know about the possibilities and difficulties in doing the following - (1) Can I request H1 to F1 change in US, then travel to india on a personal visit, come back to US on H1. Get the F1 and join the school. (2) Would this be more easier - I leave US, go to india and file for F1. Get the F1 petition with stamping done in india, travel back on F1. How long it would take to transfer H1 to F1 in india (delhi consulate) (3) Stay put on H1, go back to india on vacation and come back on H1. File for F1 in US and once approved, join the school. How long it would take to transfer H1 to F1 in US (minneapolis, minnesota resident currently). Would this be more easier than (2) option? Any other way, I can transfer H1 to F1, get an india vacation (one month long) in between and keep working till Jun/Jul just before actually joining the school (Aug).
  2. 1. Even as they never forgave the Crusaders who overran their homeland, the Syrians have never absolved the French for taking territory from them. (A) Even as they never forgave (B) While they never forgave © Just like they never forgave (D) Similarly to not forgiving (E) In spite of their never forgiving
  3. I agree with E. A is anyway taken care of by reducing the congestion. E shows that there would be business loss if proposed plan is implemented.
  4. I would go for E. B and E are close. But with B lot is left assumed. Whether lowering labor cost can come up to Country'Z level. With E we know that Country A's products will be cheaper and get sold so Trade defict would decrease. Also, consumers would not be hurt as they would get products cheaper than current level.
  5. A is correct. Experts are worrying because consumption is greater than production of oil. But A shows that consumption is infact below that level and that explains why level of oil has not gone down. Probably consumption is just about equal to production. Problem with D is that it talks about oil reserves and not oil as such. It doesn't matter if number of oil reserves remain same or grow in number as long as oil produced from current reserves is sustainable.
  6. SOJO - Great explanation. You are right. OA is A.
  7. 2. For a local government to outlaw all strikes by its workers is a costly mistake, because all its labor disputes must then be settled by binding arbitration, without any negotiated public-sector labor settlements guiding the arbitrators. Strikes should be outlawed only for categories of public-sector workers for whose services no acceptable substitute exists. The statements above best support which of the following conclusions? (A) Where public-service workers are permitted to strike, contract negotiations with those workers are typically settled without a strike. (B) Where strikes by all categories of pubic-sector workers are outlawed, no acceptable substitutes for the services provided by any of those workers are available. © Binding arbitration tends to be more advantageous for public-service workers where it is the only available means of settling labor disputes with such workers. (D) Most categories of public-sector workers have no counterparts in the private sector. (E) A strike by workers in a local government is unlikely to be settled without help from an arbitrator.
  8. (1) Recent estimates predict that between 1982 and 1995 the greatest increase in the number of people employed will be in the category of low-paying service occupations. This category, however, will not increase its share of total employment, whereas the category of high-paying service occupations will increase its share. If the estimates above are accurate, which of the following conclusions can be drawn? (A) In 1982 more people were working in low-paying service occupations than were working in high-paying service occupations. (B) In 1995 more people will be working in high-paying service occupations than will be working in low-paying service occupations. © Nonservice occupations will account for the same share of total employment in 1995 as in 1982. (D) Many of the people who were working in low-paying service occupations in 1982 will be working in high-paying service occupations by 1995. (E) The rate of growth for low-paying service occupations will be greater than the overall rate of employment growth between 1982 and 1995.
  9. The management of the minor league team considered raising admission and parking fees so that the costs would be higher than they had been charged in more than five years. (A) so that the costs would be higher than they had been (B) so that they were higher than those had been © so that fees would be higher than they were (D) to a higher level than had been (E) to a level higher than that had been
