  1. Satya, The standard of kaplan is definitely a notch above OG. A score of 50 in the quantitative section of kaplan is very very good. Considering a score of 50 in quantitative, your verbal score must have been average to corroborate the above mentioned totals. So gear up and concentrate on verbal. And always remember it is imperative that you attempt all the questions, ETS makes you pay a steep penalty for an unfinished section. For verbal,I had based my preparation almost solely on OG, and hence had skipped the verbal portion of some of the kaplan tests. So I can't comment much on the verbal portion Kaplan. To sum it up, you seem to be going good on quantitative, lay some good stress on verbal..and make sure you attempt all questions, even at the cost of having to make random guesses for some. Good luck, once again :)
  2. Satya, The SCs were real big, and mostly the whole thing was underlined. Almost all of them tested a mix of the usual errors tested on GMAT. Now when I look back, I think it was the time constraint, and the lack of familiarity that did me in. I guess, I should have kept my calm, and used the POE method more effectively. Also, I felt that underlining the whole thing makes it a slight bit more difficult to detect errors; when you have a potion that is correct, it is easier to detect the usual flaws in parallelism, subject-verb agreement, pronouns etc. The CRs were mostly on topics such as : GDP, mortality rate, excerpts from surveys. The RCs were just the usual but for one 80-liner on astronomy. I think I was paranoic to brush up my rusty high school mathematics, and hence devoted way too much time on the quantitative part. You still have time..divide your time judiciously between the two sections, brush up your verbal real well such that you are prepared for an uphill run, and you shall do well. Good luck!
  3. Amit, I have had an experience very similar to yours. I was fairly confident with verbal..but found the actual exam to be way outside the scope of OG. Did you face such a steep verbal section too? I guess I will take a small break, and then delve into the preparation once again. I dont yet know what resources to use for verbal though. I have extensively used the OG, and Kaplan 800. May be a few days worth of break would help me imbibe the concepts afresh. I would much appreciate if you please let me know your study plans.
  4. Disappointed. During the course of preparing for GMAT, the verbal section was my strong ground. On an average, I would score a about 45-48 on verbal. Am at a complete loss with my score in the verbal section. I am average with numbers, but with the help of this forum, and with practice, I arrested most of the topics that initially threw me off-guard. Hence, have no complaints about my quantitative score. Also, the level of the quantitative section was a reflection of the OG standard; there were a few tough ones, but all based on the concepts tested in the OG. The verbal section was something that came as a complete surprise. The standard of the questions in the exam was nothing remotely similar to those of OG. There were some monstrous 7-8 liner SCs ( the whole thing underlined), and several cryptic CRs that I had to pay dearly for. I knew I had to optimize on my strength ( seemingly!), and accordingly, had done the SCs and CRs in the OG several times over...diligently analyzing my mistakes, and learning the GMATland rules..none of which paid. With a score of 620, a GPA of 3.8, a good essay, and with some good recommendations, I might possibly get an admission to the MBA program I intend to, but eventually, I want to do a Phd from one of the top universities, and I am certain that it would be next to impossible with this score. I plan to retake the test again, but I feel completely lost/ demotivated, and I dont know where to start from. Especially for verbal, I have done the OG so many times over, that I doubt the fact that basing my preparations on OG again would add any further value. Please advise on ways to strategize my next round of preparations (especially for verbal). On a completely different note, this forum has been a tremendous aid in the course of my preparations. I have learnt a lot from here. Thanks, Erin. Thanks, all you guys!
