  1. The best leaders are those who encourage feedback from the people whom they lead. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. MY RESPONSE:- A leader is lauded based upon the decisions and the choices they make . A leader alone cannot be the reason for the success but if a leader makes a wrong decision , then he can be a reason for the downfall. It is evident that people who put forward their subordinates for their honest opnion and are open to feedback , prove to be the best leaders. This passage supports the prompt and provides enough evidences along with examples to hold the position. To begin , in this contemporary world, the best leaders out there are not the ones who only focus on their schemes and want to hear their praise . Instead , they put themselves in the shoes of people and think from their perspective. They also listen to the feedback and focus on improving to fill the gaps. For example, in eariier times , the monarchy was only responsible for the kingdom to flourish , the decisions made by the King and his Ministers demanded unquestionable obedience from the public, which many a times ,is evident from the history, proved to be the downfall of the kingdom as the authority was reticent towards honest opinion and used to be surrounded by sycophants. But ,nowadays , the countries are reformed into democratic nations , only being the reason to provide public an importance to choose their leaders through elections which provides the power to the citizens , continuous feedback from the citizens and making the leaders the better ones. Another example could be supposingly a team ,completing a project ,which comprises of a team lead and other members. A good team leader would ask his subordinates their perspective and open to speak , for the improvisations and improvements wherever necessary as sometimes a different perspective is needed to think out of the box for betterment. To summarize , the best leaders are the ones who encourage their people to provide them feedback which can be supported by the example in a country, leaders getting feedback at the time of introduction to various well-fare schemes amongst the people and the difficulties faced while implementing those schemes and are those tactics actually helping them or not, or choosing a government based upon their previous work would also indicate that the citizens are satisfied with the work of their leaders.
  2. The following is a memorandum from the office of Mayor Harrison Smith Jones. "In order to relieve Briggsville’s notorious traffic congestion, Mayor Harrison Smith Jones plans to build a multi-million dollar subway system. The subway will run through the major downtown areas, a part of the town where buses serve as the only form of public transportation. For years, residents have been complaining both about inconsistent buses, and the general lack of safety while riding the buses. Additionally, the subway will be running twenty-four hours a day. Since motorists will spend less time in traffic, Mayor Harrison Smith Jones expects to see an immediate increase in worker productivity, which will improve the economy of Briggsville." Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted. MY RESPONSE:- The prompt presents an argument which seems quite rational memorandum from the office of Mayor Harrison Smith Jones for a city named Briggsville. However, the argument is based upon various assumptions and is open to debate upon various notions. Firstly , the authority presenting the memorandum in the argument presumes that building an expensive subway system will prove to be a success and will relieve the audience from stucking into the traffic . It assumes that people will stop using their own bought vehicles and start using the subway . There is no such information provided that subway will cost less or will be free for the use. The argument also does not mentions the time that will be taken to build this subway which is an open invitation for debate. Secondly , the argument is based upon the notion that the subway will be able to built through major downtown areas , where only buses serve as the only form of public transport and this development will be not causing any harm to the geography to the suburb. It also assumes that it will be safer for the residents ,who travel in the bus ,without providing any safety measures or accidental prevention or insurance sceme that will be employed by the subway in the following memorandum . Thirdly, the memorandum claims that subway will be running 24 hours irrespective of the maintenance or the power failures in the city. They also claim that people driving motorcycles will be able to spend less time in traffic without considering the fact that it might be possible that some of them are driving for errands or near super market store and using the subway for these trivial things will only impede them down and may prove to be costlier. Finally, argument claims that this change will experience an increase in the worker productivity which will boost the economy of the Briggsville and forgets that in the beginning of the memorandum , it is mentioned that Mayor is planning to build a "multi-million dollar subway system" , which will use plethora of economic resources which will affect the economy and does not guarantees the time frame in which it will be ready to use. In conclusion, the prompt presents an argument which may seem beneficial but is open to debate as it is based upon a lot of assumptions and there isn't any evidence regarding it as the authority does not corroborate the timeframe , safety of citizens and economic resources on their goals for achieving this task.
  3. Task - The city of Winston has two large department stores: Namen and Roscoe Namen is known for its high-end designer fashions, while Roscoe is known for more affordable fashion options. Both Namen and Roscoe are each considering opening another store in the growing suburb of Salem, where the population has grown over 50% in the last three years and where the median income is $75,000. Namen's executives argue that as population and median income increase, people are willing to spend more money on clothing. However, Roscoe's executives believe that the suburbs are more family oriented, and therefore their store will be more profitable than their competitor Namen. Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation is likely to have the predicted result. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation. My response:- The above argument mentions about the two giant departmental stores, each known for their specific characteristics, and their executives deductions over the population and income increase. However, the argument has a lot of flaws and is based upon various assumptions. The following passages will highlight those flaws. Firstly, according to the argument, both the authorities of the stores believe that with the increased population, increased number of audience will still come to their store to purchase, understating the fact that in this modern era, people prefer online mode for shopping purposes as it is efficient, easy to use, contains a lot of varieties, returnable. cashless transactions and provides hassle-free shopping experience at the comfort of their home The argument also believes that the new place for inauguration of another store of their branch, would prove to be a honey spot for the audience irrespective of the location of that store and the interest of nearby audience living in that part of the suburb. The above argument thinks that people would like to physically visit their stores and purchase items, without any discount or membership offers of which the argument has mentioned none. The argument never mentioned about the quality for clothing purpose for any of the stores and assumes that Roscoe stores would outweigh the quality offered by Namen, at an affordable price as compared to Namen, assuming that items in the Namen stores would provide better quality since they are more expensive, than Roscoe stores, as mentioned in the argument. Therefore, it can be inferred from the above passages that argument lacks a lot of vital information and is quite based on assumptions, regarding the audience belonging to the suburb of Salem and has no clear study about the interest of the people.
  4. Leadership is a skill which is acquired by a person who leads a group of people. People, in contemporary world, believe in latest methods of solution which requires modern views and trends. However, knowing the history is useful for leaders to know about the past history and analyse the trend. Therefore, this essay disagreees with the arguement given in the prompt and provides enough evidences along With supporting statements to opine on the disagreements. Nowadays, the world in emerging out of orthodox opinions and becoming more and more practical. Digitalization, urbanization and globalization are ruling over everyone's mind. Even in the leadership, although people are hunting for talented and invigorating youngsters, who have plenty of energy and tactics, understanding past situation of any domain would still prove a benefit. For example , lets presume that a new leader is elected, that person needs to analyze the trends based on previous past experiences of the public so that he could employ some methodologies to fill the shortcomings faced former authority Another example would be a lead marketer belonging to a campaign team of an esteemed organization, the person would think over the history and problems faced during the past tenure, and will try to override the situation by new techniques to attract more audience. To conclude, in this modern era, there are lot of unprecedented situations to champion over which, considerably, requires critical thinking for the solutions about day to day life problems. However, learning about the past comes into use for the one's in the current authoritative positions, to make judgements in order to avoid any sort of loss.
