  1. Hi, For the first one, I chose c because Glenton saw a dark underside means something negative to the thesis the thesis was seen as something positive - essence of American society : individualism So what is negative if looked at individualism from a negative angle? Atomism So I think c : positive degenerating into something negative Rgds, S
  2. Hi, A document with clearer figures is uploaded at http://www.yousendit.com/download/UmNMUWVvWlRVbStGa1E9PQ
  3. Ok. I saw the rules for uploading. Meanwhile I have uploaded the same here. http://www.yousendit.com/download/UmNMUWV0dEN0d0dGa1E9PQ It is valid for only 7 days so I would be extremely grateful if someone could explain to me why the right answers are so. And also advise me as to how do I go ahead with DS section. I know some basic rules that I follow Check the first option. If its right, answer can be A or D If the first option is right, check the 2nd option in itself. If it is also ok, answer is D else answer is A If first option is not correct, then answers can be one of B,C or E. If B is ok, then answer is B, else check if it makes sense to have both options together. If yes, its C else answer is E. But even with this kind of information, I score poorly in DS. Please help. 4. Hi, Could one of you explain these answers from GMAT prep for me ? TIA S
  5. Hi, While I go through the GMAT prep s/w, I am realizing more and more that am so pathetic with DS. Can any one help me with the attached incorrect answers? The correct answers are also highlighted. Please explain these for me. Rgds, S
  6. Nopes. Thats what I marked too. I do not want to tell the answer before someone explains how he/she would get it. Rgds, S
  7. For all positive integers m, m =3m if m is odd and m=1/2m when m is even. Which of the following is equivalent to 9 * 6 ? A. 81 B. 54 C. 36 D. 27 E. 18 Rgds, S

    any help ?!

    Both the line segments are radii of the same circle, hence their lengths are equal length of point with co-ordinates (b,c) from center (0,a) by distance formula is sq.rt{(b-0)^2 + (c-a)^2} length of point with co-ordinates (d,e) from center (0,a) by distance formula is sq.rt{(d-0)^2 + (e-a)^2} sq.rt{(b-0)^2 + (c-a)^2} = sq.rt{(d-0)^2 + (e-a)^2} squaring both sides (b-0)^2 + (c-a)^2 = (d-0)^2 + (e-a)^2 expanding the squares b^2 + c^2 - 2a*c + a^2 = d^2 + e^2 - 2a*e + a^2 cancelling a^2 from both sides b^2 + c^2 - 2a*c = d^2 + e^2 - 2a*e taking -2a*c to right hand side(RHS) b^2 + c^2 = d^2 + e^2 - 2a*e + 2a*c now -2a is a common term in the last two terms on RHS b^2 + c^2 = d^2 + e^2 - 2a(e -c) Left hand side(LHS) is equal to RHS only after 2a(e -c) is subtracted from d^2 + e^2 meaning , d^2 + e^2 is greater than b^2 + c^2 HTH Sagitha

    any help ?!

    1. An excellent explanation by sweta some days back sq.rt{(b-0)2+(c-a)2}=sq.rt{(d-0)2+(e-a)2} as distance between the origin and those 2 set of points is same as u simplify the equations they become b2+c2=d2+e2-2a(e-c) we know e-c is +ve as e>c so the column B is a larger value. __________________ sweta 2. the total value of the checks being 600 we form this eqn 20x + 50y = 600 where x is the no of $20 valued checks and y the no. of $50 valued checks dividing thru out by 10 2x + 5y = 60 1 glance at this and u would know that 18 is a wierd value for x(the no of $20 valued checks ) since then we would have the eqn as 5y = 60-36 y = (60-36)/5....which would not give and integral number of $50 valued checks 3. column A is approx 8 * 3.14 almost 24 or 25 isnt it easy to see that the radius of the circle is 4 ? column B is hence 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 or 20. So column A is greater. HTH Sagitha

    Help!!

Without looking at the ans. choices you can do it this way... Work done by A in 1 hr + Work done by B in 1 hr = Total work done in 1 hr Work done by B in 1 hr would be negative in this case since water flows out of B i.e. Work done by A in 1 hr - Work done by B in 1 hr = Total work done in 1 hr ------ 1 Now total work done in 96 hrs = filling a 64 gallon drum Total work done in 1 hr = filling 64/96th part of the same drum Putting in 1 above we get 2 - x = 64/96 x = 2 - 64/96 x= (192 - 64)/96 x= 128/96 after reducing to lowest terms x = 4/3 Sagitha

    GRE CDs

Hi all Could someone point me to how I could get some of those practice CDs? Namely, those of Barron's, Kaplan's , even the official GRE practice material by ETS. Am afraid, I dont have a credit card so buying online wont be possible. Thanks Sagitha
  12. So finally what could be the correct explanation? confused here. Sagitha
  13. Thanks for that wonderful repository!Definitely a refer-to for everyone. But do you think I should go in for that exhaustive list of topics for statistics from a GRE point of view? Something crisper that I could use more frequently but come to this repository for detailed explanations????? Sagitha
  14. I recently (2 weeks back) began my preps and like most of them out there, was terrified about RCs. Well, I have devised a tactic for myself in these initial stages and believe it or not! I am scoring 100% or at masx 1 or 2 answers wrong. Thought of sharing with everyone in return for the great work going on here. As I read the RC, I jot down imp points,in 3-4 words max, draw a line after each paragraph before starting to jot down points for the next para. It works for me! I feel so nice as this simple thing starts giving me results when I reach down to the questions.Well, it doesnt affect much on speed too. And anyways time is something that I plan to improve in the months to come. Maybe by then the whole way of jotting down on a paper changes to "registering in the mind" with practice. Try it out friends - all those who find RCs the one difficult thing to crack! Sagitha
