  1. Thank you Erin! Samina This post really should be in a new thread (since it's not related to what we're talking about now), but your answer is quick and easy--in the last two weeks or so before your test, use ONLY official material. If you don't have the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip], then I guess you should use the PowerPrep tests. Using other material will taint your 'feel' for the test, as unofficial questions can never truly match the quality of the official questions. But you really should try to get your hands on a copy of the OG! It's really, really important!
  2. Hello Mariam/Erin, Thank so much for all the post, etc. I have a strategy question. I have nearly gone through the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. I am weak in RC as I am too slow in reading althoug I have always studied in English. I have 2 weeks left for my GMAT and wanted to know which of the following would be the most beneficial for me to practice i.e which one of the below should I concentrate on, bearing in mind that I am pushed for time: 1. 800score 2. Kaplan CD 3. PR downloadable test 4. Power Prep Thanking you for your time. Samina
  3. Thank you Erin and Bombomba. Can you tell me where I can find informatin on subject-verb agreements and modifying phrase (dangling modifiers) as I am getting them wrong most of the time. Thank you in advance.
  4. The fact that we were not told, added to the other problems we have experienced, are the reasons we refuse to work with them. A - The fact that we were not told, added to the other problems we have experienced, are the reasons we refuse to work with them. B - The fact that we were not told, added to the other problems we have experienced, is the reason we refuse to work with them. C - The fact that we were not told, added to the other problems we has experienced, is the reason we refuse to work with them. D - The fact that we were not told, added to the other problems we have experienced, are the reason we refuse to work with them. E - The fact that we were not told, added to the other problems we has experienced, are the reason we refuse to work with them. The answer is D which is I understand why. But my confusion is with which subject goes with which verb. The first verb: "were" (at the beginning of the sentence corresponds with the subject: "the fact". The second verb "are" corresponds with the subject: "the reason". Am I correct? The official ans to this question says that the reason why D is the ans is because the second verb:"are" should be singular to correspond with the subject "the fact".
  5. Congratulations! Very good score. How did you find SC and CR. Someone said that the verbal is really hard this month. Did you use the Official Guide? Thank you for your time.
  6. In the questions above the bits underlined are in bold.
  7. I hear from people that the bold face questions are becoming common in the GMAT test. There is only one sample in the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. Does anyone know how to obtain more sample questions for practise? Also the CR section seem to be very difficult and long in this months GMAT test(march 03) and does not follow the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] format. Anyone who has done the test recently - might be able to elaborate on this. My email address is: wirelessnz@yahoo.com Please help me to understand this BF question. I don't understand the answer given in the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] - Thank you in advance. Question 205 from OG: Consumer advocate: It is generally true` at least in this state, that lawyers who advertise a specific service charge less for that service than lawyers who do not advertise. It is also true that each time restrictions on the advertising of legal services has been eliminated, the number of lawyers advertising their services has increased and legal costs to consumers have declined in consequences. However, eliminating the state requirement that legal advertisements must specify fees for specific services would almost certainly increase rather than further reduce consumers' legal costs. Lawyers would no longer have an incentive to lower their fees when they begin advertising and if no longer required to specify arragements, many lawyers who now advertise would increase their fees. In the consumer advocate's argement, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles? (A). The first is a generalisation that the consumer advocate accepts as true; the second is presented as a consequence that follows from the truth of the generalization. (B). The first is a pattern of cause and effect that the consumer advocate argues will be repeated in the case at issue; the secon acknowlwdges a circumstance in which the pattern will not hold. ©. The first is a pattern of cause and effect that the consumer advocate predicts will not hold in the case at issue; the second offers as consideration in support of that predictions. (D). The first is evidence that the consumer advocate offers in support of a certain prediction; the second is that prediction. (E). The first acknowledges a consideration that weighs against the main position that the consumer advocate defends; the second is that position.
  8. I am also trying to improve RC & CR. I have some GMAT old materials to practice. Give me your email address and I am willing to share and am looking for a study partner. I will be doing my test in March 03.
  9. Congratulations on your score. What material did you use to prepare? Grateful for any advice.
  10. Hello Bendusastre, I have written to you using the email address that you gave. Please reply if you get a moment. Thank you!
  11. I would like to practice some GMAT questions from old papers. If there are anyone out there who would like to go through the questions in downdowndown site and discuss the answers, please let me know with your email addresses. Some of the ans are wrong and therefore it would be good to plan and practice.
  12. Congratulations on your score! I wanted to know what you meant by the fact that you drew up some grids for your verbal/Quant section and that you had a standard formula for essays. It sounds like a great idea but I don't understand what you mean by that. Please explain. Thank you!
  13. Hello Lasha, The ans are: 1. (a)11/21, (b)1/2 2. 3/4 3. 1/225 4. (a) 29/72, (b)19/36 5. (a) 841/331776, (b)125/36864 I got them from another GMAT forum. Only ans were provided with no explanation. So I would be grateful for your explanation as you seem to understand these kind of questions very well. Thank you.
  14. Could some one explain how to do the following Prob questions. Thanks. 1. From a box containing 10 cards numbered 1, 2, 3, ...., 10, four cards are drawn. find the probability that their sum will be even (a) id the cards are drawn together, (b) if each card drawn is replaced before the next is drawn. 2. A and B having equal skill, are playing a game for three points. After A has won 2 points and B has won 1 point, what is the probability that A will win the game? 3. One bag contains 3 white and 2 black balls, and another contains 2 white and 3 black balls. A ball is drawn from the second bag and placed in the first, then a ball is drawn from the first ball and placed in the second. when the pair of operation is repeated, what is the probability that the first bag will contain 5 white balls? 4. Three bags contain respectively 2 white and 3 black ball, 3 white and 3 black balls, 6 white and 2 black balls. Two bags are selected and a ball is drawn from each. Find the probability (a) that both balls are white, (b) that both balls are of the same color. 5. If four trials are made in problem 4, find the probability (a) that the first two will result in pairs of white balls and the other two in pairs of black balls, (b) that a pair of black balls will be obtained at least three times.
  15. They are all correct. I am posting some more Prob & com questions, in the next thread. Could you please have a go and explain the answers. Thanks.
