  1. No; colleges will not average your SAT score if you take it more than three times - it's just a myth.
  2. High School Grades as well as the rigor of your courseload is the most important factor in college admissions.
  3. The College Board would never use an old SAT within a short amount of period - it is likely that they used just a few portions.
  4. Nope. The Princeton Review Book does not provided any tricks or tips that couldn't be found online for free. There are many noticeable errors that glare out in the book, this only adds to my hatred of test-prep companies' books.
  5. Most, if not all, will not require transfer students to submit SAT scores - especially if you have a certain number of credits that they specify. Check each individual college's website to see if they require it or not. It's better to be on the safe side, then not.

  7. I doubt it. They likely put you in the summer session because they felt that you will likely benefit if you take a few classes before everyone else starts. (I didn't get into the summer session (just the regular fall session) so I'm not totally sure; are you definitely going to Penn State?) If I get into McGill, Boston University, Renssalaer or Syracuse, I will definitely not attend Penn State.
  8. If you plan on going into a math-intensive field, it would be best to take it (especially if you are planned on taking Math IC).
  9. Schools that are SAT-optional: http://www.fairtest.org/univ/optional.htm
  10. Congratulations on your acceptances! Which Penn State campuses are you applying to? (I already got into Penn State - University Park.)
  11. Well, if you happen to figure out what you want to write, I'll gladly critique your essay. Complicated words, if used incorrectly, can deter your essay, rather than enhance it.
  12. Thanks for the advice, I was planning on applying there. What makes University of Toronto such a bad university -- the high undergraduate application fee (close to $200 US) left a bad taste in my mouth --so I haven't bothered to apply (yet).
  13. While Math I covers easier and less advanced topics than Math II, the curve is horrendous: one wrong and your score is already below 800. Math, on the other hand, has a much nicer curve (you can get 5-6 wrong and still get an 800) -- that's why an 800 on Math IIc is only 88th percentile.
  14. Since the SAT only tests 10-15 grammar rules, it is definitely the most "coachable" section of all.
  15. knok, have your son check out this post as it has two real SATII math tests (one Ic and one IIc) -- your son could take each one and see which one he thinks he will do better on. Both tests include a scoring key and a curve chart that will help pinpoint areas of weakness, and estimate where he stands.
  16. Hi. I suggest you do a search within these forums as there are many people who have posted great tips and tricks to help boost your CR and Writing score -- especially helpful to those whom english isn't their native language. What's your score breakdown? What also gives you the most trouble (Sentence Completion, Reading in General, etc...)? What colleges are you applying to? Remember that some colleges won't be weighing the writing score as much as the CR score, and in some cases will be totally discounting it.
  17. It seems as if the College Board has released preliminary writing percentiles based on students who took the test in March, May, June and October. The link: http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/student/testing/sat/scores/SATpercentile.pdf
  18. Lafayette - Match Lehigh - Match/Reach Washington Uni. in St. louis - Reach Harvey Mudd - Reach If you raise your verbal and writing scores to the the mid-600's you will have a good chance at all of the schools you chose. Note: Harvey Mudd requires that students have taken 1 year of calculus before entering. Good Luck. :)
  19. Do you remember any of these words?
  20. Barron's is also known to go above and beyond of what's required on the SATII. Their tests are supposedly much harder than the real test and can be demoralizer if you haven't taken any realistic test(s) (such as the ones avaliable in the Collegeboard book). Barron's books would be a better supplement to your preparation than as your sole study-guide. While I don't know much about Kaplan's Chemistry guide (I'm only familiar with their Bio book) I would also ditto the comments that I made about Barron's. The information they provide is excellent (and in some cases superflous), but their tests could use a bit of fine-tuning. Good Luck - Chemistry is supposedly one of the harder SATII's out there; especially due to the unique type of questions it has: the T/T/CE format.
  21. I still haven't recieved my paper scores yet, although seeing how long it took to me to recieve my scores online it isn't quite suprising. I'm still shocked that I recieved a 29 in math - I literally guessed on 10 questions.
  22. What kind of score are you hoping for?
  23. The SAT I is much more important than the SATII's - so if you have the chance to take the test in January take the SAT I. There are few (there is like none) that accept SAT scores for Fall 2006 admissions after the January 28th test date. This link will bring you to a list of schools that require SATII's, and how many and which ones you need to take: http://www.collegeboard.com/prof/counselors/apply/12.html (As you can see there are plenty of schools that don't even require SATII's as part of their requirements.) It would be hard to recommend a college to you and not know what you major in -- most colleges here specialize in a few subject areas so it would be to your best interest if we know what you want to major in.
  24. About 1000 (Math + Critical Reading)
  25. You are already past the national average; so yes, you are starting out ok. Read some of the older posts on this forum -- it seems that CR is the hardest section to improve.
