  1. Can you guys offer any direct evidence for UIUC being superior to CMU in industry relationships and placements? I've been looking at the available courses at both schools, and CMU just seems to have a better selection in digital IC design. However, finding a top paying job at a great company like Intel or AMD after I graduate is the most important consideration for me. Is a master's from UIUC really going to give me an edge in finding a job over getting it from CMU? Thanks for your help.
  2. I've been accepted to both CMU and UIUC for a master's in ECE. While UIUC is a bit cheaper and has an excellent reputation in ECE, CMU has more courses related to my interest, digital IC design. Anybody have any advice or suggestions on which school would be better for someone who only wants a MS, not a PhD and is trying to get the best education for a position in industry, as opposed to academia? Thanks, and good luck to anybody still waiting.
  3. Thanks for your help guys. As for my profile: GPA: 3.79 (CompE Major GPA 3.85) from Polytechnic University, which is a tier 3 engineering school in Brooklyn, NY. GRE: 670/790/4.5 3 years experience as a digital circuit board & firmware designer at BAE Systems CNIR, a government contractor that designs communications systems for the U.S. Army. I am an American citizen born in the U.S. and I did not request financial aid in any of my applications, which I'm sure helped my chances considerably.
  4. Digital VLSI Design, as well as computer architecture
  5. I can't believe it, but somehow I've managed to get into three schools I was really hoping but not expecting to get into: UIUC, CMU, and Cornell for a master's in ECE. Now, I have the desirable dilemma of choosing between them by April 15th. While UIUC and CMU are rated considerably higher than Cornell, the fact that I'm interested in returning to industry as soon as I get my master's degree makes me think that maybe Cornell's MEng program is a better fit for my career goals. But then again, UIUC and CMU have MS programs that offer a course intensive, non-research oriented degree. So, what would you do if you were in my shoes? Unfortunately, I can't visit Illinois, because I live in NYC and can't get any time off from work. I'll probably visit CMU in Pittsburgh, and I know what Cornell's campus in Ithaca is like. So basically, I'll just have to base it on what courses are available, and which school has a better reputation in computer engineering, specifically digital IC design. Thanks for any help you can give, and good luck to anyone still waiting!
  6. I received an acceptance letter this past Friday. I had e-mailed them a week earlier, but I also received no reply. I'm sure you'll hear something soon, and don't worry, it'll probably be good news. Good luck!
  7. I just got an acceptance letter from CMU in the mail! It says I've been accepted into the ECE department's course option MS program, which is what I wanted since I'm not interested in a Ph.D. I'm not getting any financial aid, but this is typical with MS only students. One thing that worries me slightly is that it says that the program can be completed in 3 semesters. However, the website says 96 units are required for the degree with 12 units to a course, for a total of 8 courses. I would think that I could handle 4 courses a semester, unless CMU courses are really tough. I'm thinking CMU would prefer me to finish in 3 semesters just to squeeze more tuition out of me, not because they're concerned about my academic performance. Any comments? Thanks for all your expressions of support, and good luck to everybody!
  8. Has anyone heard from Carnegie Mellon's ECE department? I have applied as a M.S. student, but I have yet to receive anything from them. Their website claims that responses are sent throughout March, but after looking through this forum and Whogotin.com, I have yet to see anything more than 1 or 2 Ph.D. decisions. Also, has anyone heard from UIUC or UMich at all? Thanks, and good luck to all!
  9. Has anyone heard from Stanford EE yet? I know they said they'll be done by 3/14, but does that mean they'll finish contacting everyone by then, or they're planning on sending out all their e-mails on that one day? While I'm agonizing in the interim, can anyone give me an indication of my chances at Stanford? I'm an American citizen, my objective is M.S. (I made it very clear in my statement that I'm not interested in a Ph.D.), and I checked no financial aid required on my application (I'm funding my own education). My overall GPA is 3.79 from Polytechnic University (a tier 2 or 3 American engineering school) and my major GPA is 3.85. My GRE scores are V-670, Q-790, and AW-4.5. Thanks for any help you can give me, and good luck to all!
