  1. Both the universities are awesome in the area, but I think when it comes to telecom, Germany rulez over UK. Also, a couple of my friends did their Masters from Edinburgh, 1 was offered PhD, but without ANY financial aid. the language problem in Germany can be troubling but I think the cost of living and attitude towards outsiders is much better there.
  2. Congrats to u Ritwik and all other TMians who got into some place best of luck for next time to others who didn't make it
  3. Here's my tally after recent updates: Admits, all CS: PhD UIC PhD Colorado State MS GA Tech MS USC (after rejection for PhD) Rejects: PhD Ohio State PhD USC PhD GA Tech (Unofficial application and rejection) Decision: PhD (UIC)
  4. I finally talked to the professor and she too was regretful that there was no assurance I could be given on the admission to PhD. Also, she said that I could do a good (kickass) PhD from UIC. She understood my priority and that settled it in favor of UIC. I will apply for transfers later to different schools, but choosing MS now may cause me Visa problems later, i.e. I may get stuck waiting for an F-1 Visa after my MS. Currently I have a J-1 for WHICHEVER program I choose. I myself find the decision tuff, but I may not settle in US after all, outside US the UIC vs GA Tech Thingie shudn't haunt me. anyway, I'll say TM ROCKS!!!! No doubt about it. Thanks to all of you for support.
  5. They are refusing to gimme proper advisor:mad: I'll play it safe and apply for transfers if i want to later I've noticed that the areas I am interested in (SE & AI) are running put of steam too. I think I wud play it safe, even though I would miss its beautiful campus and stuff!
  6. the problem is that I have already spent two years in earning a masters degree from a not-well-known university. I am not willing to spend two more years. my long term goal is academia, but I don't think there is any point in taking out two more years I was thinking applying for Spring and a transfer, now that I realize I can make it to GATech I am sure I can make it to a lot of other places.
  7. yes, thats right they mailed me that they were not offering me admission to PhD but forgot to tell me about MS I don't need aid, I'm already on another schship which will sponsor me wherever i wanna go
  8. Last friday I got sick of waiting wrote a rude mail to the grad sec at gatech saying i am sick of waiting it automatically means a reject, at least they shud tell me. SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE they had misspelled my email on a mail sent on 22nd:mad: she apologized and i have gone over the admit mail atleast a dozen times since then:tup: , it feels gr8 to be qualified enuff for GAtech, but..... I have already accepted admission to UIC - PhD cause GAtech refused to consider/accept me in PhD ( which they told me on 22nd  ). I still think there is no point in backing out of UIC PhD, despite the US News ranking, its not that bad and I can always transfer as a last resort to some other univ. What do the TMians say.? I already put a poll to ask for help just in case this situation arised, and it was a tie. More comments?
  9. btw. does anybody have a list of univs that offer admission for spring the only one i know is University of Illinois (all campuses)
  10. Oh No, Not that industry and academia value thingie again.... There has been a lot of argument and in the end it was decided that university matters more for academia than industry. You can search the archives for it
  11. Hey Guys How many of us are actually going to UIC? there is a yahoo group for ppl http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uic_fall_2005/ c ya in chicago
  12. congrats!!!!! I'd say if u can afford it go 4 CMU it's beyond doubt the best school in CS.
