1. Ultra, Excellent and brilliant point!!!! I will definately keep this in mind...so are you reconsidering UAB? Which area of molecular biology are you interested in? For me, anything that involves the central dogma: genomics, transcriptinomics or proteonomics.
2. it's a good score. but i would call too. And realize this! the majority of schools don't even require the subject test! What they are looking for is whether "You're interesting and You're Interested!" Do you understand this? A prof told me this and it makes a lot of sense.
3. I've also heard conflicting reviews about grad schools. I think what's important is the faculty more than anything. I spoke to a professor from Northwestern who told me that it doesn't matter if you go to a Ivy league school or a state school but what matters is your PI and the impact s/he has in their field, the number of grants s/he has and whether they give their PhD students first authorship or not...This is really important because when you finish your Phd and all you have are low impact publication and second or middle authorship for the last 5 years, good luck getting anything in your area. This is what I'm looking for in a school. And so when I apply, I'm not thinking that they are going to critique me, but rather I will critique them and in my opinion, they need us more than we need them. So apply to a number of top schools in your area and 'shop around' during the interview. Make sure you like their facility, location, because you're going to call that place home for the next 5 years or so. Anyhow, that site you gave is way outdated, I think they said it's information from 1994! Don't rely on it. Still waiting on my scores...!!!
4. Thanks for the encouraging remarks. I have to stop thinking about this exam now!!! Anyhow, when are you taking the general test? I can't remember if I asked you which schools/programs your're planning to apply to...? For me, I'm thining of WashU, Northwestern, UofChicago, JHU, Duke (maybe), UCLA, UCSC, UCSF...and of course one or two GUARANTEE SCHOOLS just in case i don't get into any of the other schools...what about you?
5. I can't believe you two!!!! why did you guys give-in like that and pay them more to get your scores...are you so desperate that you need it now and can't wait a mere week...:(. I refuse to pay them any more! I'm going to wait. BTW - congrats on the scores, i hope i did as well...crossing my fingers...
6. I did and guess what! This very post is number 2/3 followed by ETS - FAQ...Great JOB!!!!! :tup::tup::tup:
7. congrats man. i'm now applying to the IGP program at NU. maybe we'll see each other there.
8. A member over at the Biochemistry, Molecular biology and Cell Subject Test posted a very interesting analysis of why hate ETS. I wish he would of posted his comments here in the lounge so everyone can discuss it. So, here is the post. http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?p=137030#post137030 I encourage the moderators to split that thread up if they can and move part of that discussion over here. Thanks!
9. I'm glad I asked that question!!!! Ultra, your insight is very thorough and lights a fire under my A$$! I have to agree with you on everything you mentioned. Let me try to put in some of my insights as to why ETS offers such high rates and such BS 'exams'. Like you said, the majority of the test takers are foreigners and hence would take this kind of American capitalist BS because as we know most don't understand how it works. So the ETS and university adcoms accept this flaw and use it to their needs. ETS does it because they know they can get away with it as you so cleverly put it, and the univ. adcoms need it because they need a way to standardize all students from around the world. It’s a synergy (similar to why eukaryotic cells engulfed a prokaryote many years ago to form our mitochondria ;)). Both ETS and univ. adcoms can't live with each other and can't live without. I really don't know what the solution is...maybe your idea of having each university design their test could be one. But then what do you propose we do? Fly to each school and take their test?:hmm: I hate money making companies that obviously take advantage of desperate peoples hopes and dreams to make a few bucks:2cents:!!!! Why didn't you post this in the main forum instead of here? your post deserves more exposure!
10. Which city would that be? I think most if not all the cities in Brazil are just about dangerous compared to american standards. :hmm::whistle:
11. Are you sure you live in brazil??? :hmm:well i guess you are the lucky ones!!!:p[clap]
12. Is this real enough for you? The trip up to this monument is unbelieveable. taxi ride up almost 20-30$
13. well that's one way to discourage non-engineers and econ from this site 'me think me'll turn things around' muuhhahaaa!!!!:hmm::hmm::hmm:
14. hey you copied my code, at least change the class ;):p what if he got below a B? then what?
15. I'll try to create a program to guess! public class Guess_ritwik_Grade {
public static void main (String[] args) {

int Your_Grade;

if (F
else
System.out.println ("bioinformatics is wrong")

}
}
16. pi knew i should of consultated someone before I created this poll, but i went with my experience and i guess. most of my friends who were poli sci majors wanted to be lawyers...so i just put two and two together ;). shoot me i guess :(
17. oh and can we put this survey as a 'sticky post' for some time to get the maximum exposure from both current and future TMers? I think it's important to know. what do you think?
18. do i have to tell you which one i picked? hint, see my signature...;)
19. I want to get a general survey of TMers to find out which academic area's are most of you interested in for your graduate degree. I see a lot of computer science and engineers, but let's see, maybe there's some folks just to shy to tell. I'll try to be as broad as I can, then you can elaborate in your posts. sounds okay to everyone?
