  1. My journey has been a long and frustrating one. The first time i took the Gmat i got 430 and i was devastated. The second time i got 420 and i couldn't beleive it. The third and final time i got 580 and i felt relieved. I was not aiming for 700 because i just wanted anything over 500(guess i am not an high achiever) I applied to four schools: Barry University, University of Hartford, Central connecticut state and Elon University and got accepted to all four. I decided to go to Barry because i got a merit scholarship for 5000 per semester, plus additional financial assistance for 5000 plus the promise of graduate assistanship worth $6000 per semester. People do not give up and apply to 1 safe school where you surpass the basic requirements. Miami here i come
  2. natasha you ahve to do your research. quite a number of schools will accept scores over 500 with some work experience. is tuition a factor or can you afford to go to any school. the achools i am applying to all accept any score over 500. barry university-----miami mercer university atlanta Elon university north carolina university of hartford and central connecticut state there are other non ivy league schools that accepts a score over 500
  3. that's what i did and luckily for me i got 8 SC first in the verbal section. All three times i didthe exam i got about 6-8 SC/CR first. but it may not work for you
  4. to be honest do not give up. you are obviously strong in quant so just brush up on the verbal. i know from experience that the questions you get on the exam are the luck of the draw. They have nothing to do with how well u are doing. the first time i did the gmat i got 430 (25 25) i was really disappointed because i knew that my chosen schools would not accept me with that score. i retook the exam three weeks later and to my surprise i got 420 (29Q 19V) i was pissed but i knew i couldn't give up. I have never had a problem with English but like they say gmat english is not english. For my third time sitting the exam i decided that i was going to maximize on sentence correction and critical reasoning. RC was my weak area but i figured that if i got four passages with three question each even if i get all of them wrong i must try and get all the SC and CR right. So i decided to fucus on SC and CR. Luckily this worked for me because i got about 8 SC first and i took the time to ensure that i got them right. Everytime i got to a passage i looked to see how many questions are based on the passage( that is located at the top of the passage) if there are just two or three questions i skimmed through and try to find the right answer. if i cannt find the right answer i dont sweat it because it is just two are three questions. Why I think the level of questions has nothing to do with your score the second time i did the exam i really studid. during the Quant section i say that the questions kept getting harder so i thought i was doing good. I got about 4-5 probability/combination . ai the end of the exam i was shocked to see my score. This time i got no probability question, no combination or permutation. during this exam i really felt bad because i thestions were easy and straightforward. I ended up with 580 (36Q 34V) My advise to you is maximize on SC and CR and take the time to do the first couple of questions. try to get every single SC and CR correct so if you get the RC wrong it wont affect your score too much.
  5. Pry i understand your reasoning ( a very good one at that) but the part where you lose me is the last part. do you them multiply the diffent scenarios to come up with the answer. for example do u multiply BBG *bgb*gbg etc. i ma not sure how u got the 28/65+8/65. could u elab
  6. i know the feeling exactly. you cann't tell exactly how you are doing based on your questions. i thought i was doing well on my second attemp until i saw my score. my advise to you is just keep studying and hopefully on your third try you'll do better. just go over everything you can in the verbal section and you should do better. keep the faith.
  7. hey grag you said you bombed the gmat. what was your score and how does it compare to the average score that the school require.
  8. i am confused with the formula 6/3*3*2.m where did the 2 come from. i thought it was supposed to be (n-1)!. can someone please explain
  9. Twin thanks for the link to the paper test. i feel motivated now. i am going to be a success story in the forum. the poster child from "rags" to "riches". Twin do u have any Reading comp link that you can send me. i need to focus on this area because it seem that is the killer
  10. Boy do i have a Gmat horror story to tell. I took the GMAT on April 23 for the first time and to my dismay my score was 420 (25Q 25 V) i was very disappointed so i decide to tackle it again three weeks later. On MAy 17 i sat the exam for the second time and this experience was more horresdous than the first. This has led me to believe that the whole notion of the "test adapting to you ability" is not entirely true. the reason for me saying this is that i really believe that my second test was much more difficult than the first. since that is the case my second score should be higher than my first. Quant this section was not too bad but to be honest i could not answer some of the question. the questions were [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] level so with a clear understanding of [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] ( which i obviously did not have,k based on my score) anyone should be able to manage. horrible, horrible verbal Before i begin i must say that this has always been my strong area my entire academic life. i studied literature and i have a social sciences background. But i soon realized that that had nothing to with the GMAT. I studied the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. i did all the critical reasoning and sentence correction. I only did a handful of reading comp ( which was a big mistake). the verbal section started out with three sentence correction which i found to be moderate. that was the only good memory i had in that section, it was downhill after those three question. the Fourth question was a monster of a reading comp (60 lines). i remember just thinking please god let this be the last question everytime i hit the confirm button. I really did not realize when the questions for this passage came to an end because this passage was followed by another passage (45 lines) i said oh shit to my self. By the time i got through the second passage i was at question number 16. i was so mad to be give two RC back to back so early in the test because i know how critical it is to get the first few question correct. i tried to make up with the next couple of questions. i got some really long CR and SC. by the time i got to question number 24 it was another 60 line Reading comp. that was when i realized that it was not going to be a good day for me. the really messed ( AND I AM ONLY USING THIS WORD OUT OF RESPECT) up this is that by question 32 with 12 minutes left i was given another RC (80 line) i could not believe it. so of course i didn't have time to go through. i hurried to try and answer the questions. It was an awful experience. i was so shocked when i got my score 420 (29Q 17V). i was fuming. so once again i have gotten a low blow from mr GMAT but i have to beat this thing. The irony of all this is that i do not want to do an mba. i just want to do a ms in marketing something i am very good at. Guys i need your help. Security, lego, twin, erin i need an intervention. Help!!!!!!!! i scheduled another exam for june 22nd. i know i can do this

  13. can someone please explains this to me. i am lost at the 1C2*8C etc. can u please break it down
  14. if the list price for the 1st pair is 100 then the list price for the second pair is 65.00 since the second pair will be sold for 50% of the list price it will be sold for 32.50 the savings on both shoes will be 165 (original price of both pairs) -132.5 (price with discount) which is 32.50. If you want to find the % discount it's 32.50/165 x 100 =19.70 roughly 20%. i suck at formulas, i feel more comfortable plugging in numbers which take more time. that is one thing i need to wok on
  15. hey guys i am having major problems with these topics. do you know any sites that you can refer me to. i really need to brush up on my skills i have my second attempt in 1 week
